Zero Dollar ($0) amount when handed over to PayPal using IPN

Hi,

I have a challenge using the IPN module with PayPal when running Zen Cart version 1.5.0 and on BlueHost. When a user confirms the transaction and is taken to PayPal's screen they are shown our PayPal merchant name but the amount is $0 and the detail of the items are not shown. There is definitely a non-zero amount in Zen Cart. I have tried using the live PayPal system and also the Sandbox - both result in the same problem. (I switched the primary email address and PDT appropriately to test using both.) I've changed Zen Cart's "Detailed Line Items in Cart" to No and this doesn't help. It appears PayPal recognizes some of the Zen Cart communication as the merchant name is appearing but possibly the order details are not being transferred. Any suggestions for a solution please? Two of us have spent hours searching the forum for a fix but have had no luck.

Thanks,
Andrew.

Strongly recommended that you use Express Checkout instead. Better customer experience. Better exchange of data. More secure.

Thanks DrByte. I thought I read somewhere that it was necessary to have a minimum of $5000 history with PayPal before the Express Checkout facility is made available to a merchant. I'm working for a start-up business and it doesn't have that level of sales history with PayPal. If my perception is incorrect then I'd appreciate having it fixed!
Thanks,
Andrew.

Your perception is incorrect. Switch to Paypal Express.

I've never heard of that, certainly not in the context of EC anyway.

Re: Zero Dollar ($0) amount when handed over to PayPal using IPN

I've now switched from IPN to Express Checkout but now get the following Zen Cart error just after confirming the order:

"An error occurred when we tried to contact the payment processor. Please try again, select an alternate payment method, or contact the store owner for assistance. (10401) 10401 Transaction refused because of an invalid argument. See additional error messages for details. - Order total is invalid."

The log includes:

(I have changed some details in this log for privacy considerations - "x, y and z were inserted".) The checkout amount certainly wasn't $0 when the transaction was conducted in Zen Cart. It was $219.40.

I've also tested EC on another Zen Cart 1.5.0 installation on the same web host - I had designed a proof of concept for the same store owner. Express Cart works fine with that site so there appears to be an issue with the configuration of the production Zen Cart.

Any suggestions for what might be the cause please?

Thanks,
Andrew.

Yes, it does look like your production site has some issues that don't exist in normal use.

I don't think I've ever seen it produce a $0 amount, for any paypal module, regardless of Express Checkout. Sounds like you've got plugins or customizations that are breaking normal functionality.

The other debug logs would be helpful, if present. You quoted partially from a PayPal_CURL-_xxxxxxx.log (or an email equivalent thereof). If there are other paypalwpp_Paypal_Action_xxxxxxx.log files, their content would be very useful too.

Also, a detailed list of exact steps to take for me to consistently recreate your problem on my own server is necessary. Assume I'm installing from a freshly downloaded zip file, without any plugins or customizations or changes to admin settings. What do I need to do to mine to make it trigger all your symptoms?

Re: Zero Dollar ($0) amount when handed over to PayPal using IPN

DrByte,
The problem has been solved. It was a currency configuration issue. It is an Australian based business. Under Localization>Currencies we had the currency set to "AU" but it should have been "AUD".
Thanks,
Andrew.
