upgrade question about Payment and shipping module: notice

Concerning these modules: does I have do remove from my live site and then make a copy of the database and used this database for the upgrade.
Or I can make the upgrade then remove then reinstall those two modules on the 1.5.

You only need to install the files for them on your new install
Then in the admin remove and re-install them
