Number of boxes to be shipped

Why is Zencart shipping number of boxes equal to the number of products ordered, even if 'ships in own box' is unchecked?
That blows up shipping cost out of proportion and drives away my customers.
I end up only having sales where customers ordering single quantity and losing all sales with multiples.
Just can't figure how to provide realistic shipping quotes, any help?

Original Zen Cart (up to v1.5.1 anyway) calculates boxes based on weight, and has no "ships in own box".
So it sounds like you've got a problem with your shipping module and any other addons you've installed.

This is a Canada post module related issue than. Sounds like this module is unsupported, as I get no response to questions posted in the mods forum regarding that module. This is a show stopper for me.
