PayPal Payments Standard just stopped working

PayPal Standard has been set up and running fine for months and then starting late last week I noticed that I stopped getting notifications from my cart about orders, but was still getting emails from PayPal that I had money received. I checked to make sure that the token, IPN and return URL were set right and they are. When someone checks out using PayPal, not only do I not get a notification of a new order from my store, but when it redirects back to my site, on the checkout_success page it shows the order number of the last correctly processed order.

Has anyone had this problem before or knows what I need to do to fix this? I get on average about 200 orders per month and this is killing me.

turn on paypal logging and let us see what is happening, make sure you ommit any personal information from the paypal IPN notification to ensure you protect your customers details for the forum.

have you recently set a sale up? I have had rounding issues recently where zen cart rounds up to 4 decimals but paypal only to two, and when a slae is active and you are talking items in cart with fration prices there is a mismatch when the orders are sent back from paypal.

if you have line items on your paypal store receiptss you will easily be able to see if this is the problem, simply add all the items as per the order to your cart, if the total is 1p or 1c different to the paypal receipt, then this is definatly why the orders are not processing.

I set it to log and downloaded the HTML file and it comes up blank. looked at source code and also blank. I added one product as a test for 1.00 and and also purchased 2 other items from my store (one that was existing and one that was added this weekend). two purchases showed up in the admin section and one didnt (the test purchase). Only one email received from my cart of a new order which was the last one.

So your paypal log file is empty?
includes/modules/payment/paypal/logs
Should be around about there?

What I would check is if orders of products that are a round figure and don't have a sale applied to them get processe vs an order of products in a sale.?

ok, so I found the file (was looking in the wrong cart) but every time I try posting it it will not let me. My post does not show up. All numbers are rounding to 2 digits.

Is there a very specific reason why you're still using the antiquated Payments Standard approach instead of the contemporary Express Checkout? They provide the same experience to the customer but EC works much more reliably and never has to wait on an IPN to process the order.

See if any logs mention a currency mis match.

Your problem seems very similar to one I had where when a sale is applied zen cArt calculate the product price as

For example
12.3572

Even though the store front would show 12.36 the figure used when adding the cart total to send paypal use the four digits. This results in randomly having a mismatch of about 1cents between what paypal calculates and sends back and what zen cart stores.

So when I say do a test without a sale, do a test order with products that do not have a sale applies so that you know the amounts being added are round figures.

I'm only suggesting this could be the problem, might not be.

As DrByte says express is more reliable however I never switched as I prefer standard and when I applied te rounding fix I went from nearly every order not processing to every order processing.

ok now I understand what you mean. We are not running any sales. I have an addon that shows the MSRP, the price that we are offering it at, and their discount, but that should all be cosmetic as the only number reported to paypal and to the admin section of a sale is the price that we are offering the product at. The only other thing I can think of that would cause more than 2 digits is sales tax being added. But just to clarify, we are not running ANY sales that would be determined by a percentage off. Does that help?

The error said something about not being about to find the session.

Hmm in stumped then I'm afraid if it doesn't send the discounted price it's probably not the same problem I had sorry :(

Though I did get the session not found error also but only when re-sending IPNs after the orders were not created.

No. If you just wanted to add PayPal buttons to each product, there'd be no point in using a comprehensive ecommerce system like Zen Cart.

In your Admin->Modules->Payment screen, Click "Remove" on PayPal Standard/IPN.

ok so I just set up checkout express and I now have a good reason why I don't want to use express...it requires the person to set up a paypal account instead of just being able to check out with a credit card like standard does.

any ideas on how to get my standard working right again?

requires them to set up a paypal account if they click the check out with paypal button from the cart and doesnt transfer over the shipping costs.
