HTTP Error 500 when logging in as a customer, but only from some forms.

Hi guys,

I'm getting a "HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request" error when trying to log in as a customer.

The strange this is, this only happens when logging in from two of three forms. I have a log in form in the main page, and one on the standard main_page=login page and both of these return this error. The log-in form provided below the PayPal Express Checkout version of the log in page works fine; logs in and goes directly to the checkout page with no hassle.

The other two log in forms that are returning the 500 error are actually creating a session and connecting to the database, as if I refresh the page I go to My Account signed in.

I have also tested using the exact same form creation code in all three places (in tpl_login_default.php and tpl_main_page.php). I have also tested the forms with default templates, and still get the same error.. Any idea where I should start trying to diagnose the problem?

Apologies if I've not included enough information...

Thanks!

-Chris

Thanks for explaining your symptoms. Now please explain your environment, by clicking Reply and answering the questions in the Posting Tips dialog that appears above the reply window.

Re: HTTP Error 500 when logging in as a customer, but only from some forms.

Hi Dr Byte,

Thanks for responding.

This is the environment:

v1.5.1
Upgraded from 1.5.0 25.1.2013
Followed official upgrade procedure
No plug-ins/addons
Installed via upload from FTP
PHP version 5.4.11
MySQL 5.1.67
The problem started today, but I didn't notice when. I've been upgrading the template, but as mentioned, the error occurs regardless of which template is selected.
This is my first store, and it is not 'live' per se, but is hosted on a remote server for pre-launch testing/configuration.
I have built my own styling template, and upgraded a few modules using standard per-template override procedure.

I have looked in the FAQ area and Forum and found similar issues but none identical, and I tried to retrofit their solutions onto this build to no avail.

Re: HTTP Error 500 when logging in as a customer, but only from some forms.

Since the activities you said are having a problem are related to SSL, I suspect something's awry with your SSL configuration, and/or maybe your domain doesn't even have SSL yet and that's what's triggering the error.

You didn't post a URL for us to see the symptoms in action.

I thought it may be along those lines too, but thought it strange that the third version of the form also submits with an SSL connection, and seems to go through fine.

I'll focus my attention there, and see if I get anywhere. Thanks for your help.

Re: HTTP Error 500 when logging in as a customer, but only from some forms.

I've tested the forms in both SSL and NONSSL, and they're both delivering the same response.

What would be the difference between a standard log in form, and the one that includes the Express Checkout option? You only reach that page if you click Checkout on when not logged in, so could it be something to do with the form not passing where it should redirect to after signing in?

The browser stops at index.php?mainpage=login&action=process

Re: HTTP Error 500 when logging in as a customer, but only from some forms.

The URLs are generated based on the settings in your configure.php files.
Evidently your settings for SSL in there are incorrect.

But, you still haven't posted a URL, so there's not much anyone can offer in terms of detailed help. Care to share?

I suppose it could also be related to changes you've made to core code, so: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Diagnosing_Obscure_Issues
