"Contact Us" page missing "Submit" button - please help!

Hi Everyone,

I've run across an annoying problem that I'm not sure how to fix. I'm not much of a coder and the guys who were helping me with my site before have now disappeared. Can you please take a look at this page and let me know how to add the submit button after the message (currently, there doesn't seem to be a way to send messages - just write them!):

Switch to the classic template and see if it is there

If so, then you only have to look at files altered in your template "black_pure_free"

Your "developers" have hard-coded an inline style:

So...

Go to your zencart admin screen and under TOOLS menu, click "Developers Toolkit"

Then, put the text in red (above), into the final input field, select catalog/admin from the dropdown, and click the button.

Come back and tell us what FILES are reported as containing this text.

Using your FTP program, go look in:

includes/templates/black_pure_free/templates/

... and see if there is a file called: tpl_contact_us_default.php

If there is such a file, then temporarily RE-NAME it to tpl_contact_us_default.BAK

Unfortunately, there isn't such a file in that folder. In case it matters, there is one in

includes/templates/template_default/templates/

That is the one being used when you switched to the classic template

All your fancy design "trinkets" will do you no favours...

The rather irritating background re-loads each time I change pages, taking up valuable time.

Your home page is probably one of the more confusing I have seen. Far too much going on. It's unclear where I should be going to find what I want.

To be honest, I think your designers are satisfying their own "creative ego's" ahead of developing a site that has a simple User Experience.

Bear in mind that with the rapid increase of mobile devices, your site will struggle...

Keep things short, sweet and simple. I don't want entertainment when I visit a shopping site... I want fast information about products with a logical navigational flow.

Thank you very much Schoolboy! As brutally honest and hard to hear as that is, it's really good to know how to improve. I'm glad to no longer be working with those developer guys, and I think that as soon as I generate at least a little bit of income from the site (it's not actually being run/advertised yet), I'll definitely go for a simplicity-based overhaul, as per your advice. I'll also probably to create a "m.skylanterns.ca" version.

But for now, is there anything at all I can do for this particular missing-button problem?

That's a real shame... And no, in fact, after I sent them the first 50% of the payment, they promptly disappeared and left a whole bunch of other things we agreed upon unfinished. In addition to having taken over a year to do everything that you see and having raised the "total" price several times during that time. :(

Is there really no way to make use of the "contact_us" file from the original template? I'm just at a loss for what to do if I can't get that button working...

Wow... That's definitely how it should be. Is there any way to tell which .php file contains the relevant code in the black_pure_free template?

Also, in case this helps, I tried switching the current contact us php file (in the default template directory) for the original, unedited zencart one and this does adds the address and contact info on top but does not affect the button situation...

Unfortunately, that's no longer possible. However, I did the next best thing and just created another page with an email link instead of a submission box.

A considerable amount of "tinkering" has been done... most of it hidden from view.

It is just not possible for us to determine what has gone wrong... but it suggests that other stuff may also not be "safe" either...

If this important function has been "damaged", then I would also start to think... "what else might not work?"

My advice would be to load another template and "abandon" this one.

Your desire to have "floating lanterns" drifting across the screen (which is very annoying, actually) is surely less important than providing your visitors with a stable shopping environment.

If your intention is to run an efficient and fast webshop that aims to sell stuff quickly and effectively, then abandon these silly trinkets and focus on what matters.
