Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

Do you also have a backup of the database???

You should be able to determine version by viewing the table "project_version"

If the file ends wqith a .sql then you can open it directly in a code editor like notepad++

If it is a zip or tar.gz file then you will have to expand it first

Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

It is not a file

It is a table in the database

If you do not have a database backup you only have about 10% of a backup being the files only

If you only have files that were FTP'd from your site - then you do not have a database backup

The mere fact that you are asking leads me to believe that you do not have one

Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

ok not sure what good a back up would be if it didn't include a database but lets assume its possible. is there any way to ascertain what version a backup is from the files?

Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

A good indicator is to look at the docs folder and look for files named

changelog-v1-3-??.html

The last one is most likely the version

But without a database backup you do not have a "store" you only have a bunch of files

Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

ok can see there were several docs there that on the same day went from v1.3.0 to v1-3-8
so if someone does a back up of zen cart how would you know if you got the database or not?

Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

how would you know if you got the database or not
There would be a file named something like
user_name_db_name.sql
user_name_db_name.zip
user_name_db_name.tar.gz

Where user name would be what the host assigned as a user & db name would be what was assigned as the database name

Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

Sorry to interject, but...
How was your backup created? If it was by ftp then I too doubt you have a DB backup, but if it was via your hosting panel AND you made a FULL backup then you should have everything that was on your part of the server, incl emails, all files and your elusive database.

Re: Moving site have a back up but not sure...

picandnix, you need to log in to the control panel. Your host should have given you an access to it.

When you are in, go to database, choose export. As zip or gzip you need to unzip it. SQL is bigger for download.

SQL is a file type and only that is your copy of all records. Without it, you will have no information on customers, orders, and so on. Your Zen-Cart is an empty box without it!
