Image Display Distorted, New Product Preview

Just an aggravation, not a problem,

but when I enter a new product through Admin then click the preview button, the image in the preview sometimes displays with disproportionate distortions. Most of my product images are square, and these display without significant distortions. Those images that aren't square, though, are disproportionately distorted into squares.

As I said, this issue isn't a problem, as I've set images through Configuration so that they display properly in my store. I just wondered what setting would allow the images to also display properly on their preview pages. I've searched the forums, and I found some threads that discussed this issue, but none that offered a solution. Any direction much appreciated.

As I said, this issue was an aggravation, not a problem. I did, however, just figure out how to remedy it, and I feel quite silly to have overlooked such an easy solution. All I had to do was set "Small Image Height" (Configuration > Images) to 0. When I set all the other image dimensions, I left the Small Image dimensions at the default values, as they didn't appear to have any effect on my store display. As it turns out, though, the Small Image dimensions are what control the display of the images on the new product preview page.

I'll take your word that the ZenCart Admin is all legacy, as I know nothing of the development history of ZenCart. But even though it's legacy code, I have to use it incessantly to create my storefront, and everything about my storefront depends on it to some extent. Thus, I'm always glad when things are working out front, but I'm really happy when I understand how they're working in back, even when the matter's just an inconsequential aggravation (as in this case). Where would I go to learn more about the code coming down the pike to replace the Admin legacy?

Well, kobra,

That was an interesting foray into the future of ZenCart, not a far foray, but interesting nonetheless. I'm relieved to learn that the basic architecture underlying 1.5.X won't be going away anytime soon, as I just started working with ZenCart in this version stream, and I would rather not have to switch anytime soon.

Mainly I discovered that my understanding of the term "legacy code" was entirely flawed, or rather my understanding of the term was itself a legacy no longer applicable. So I spent most of the afternoon after your post studying the history and meaning of legacy code when I should have been figuring out why my popup windows aren't properly resizing to fit the images. A task for tomorrow, I reckon.
