Best way to display multiple dependant attributes with stock? - eg Colour AND Size

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for the best way to work with multiple attributes.

My customer sells jeans. The waist measurement goes from 40" to 70" (there's about 8 variations) and the inside leg goes from 32" to 38" (4 variations).

I understand Zen can't have dependant attributes - ie customer selects 42" waist and only the "in stock" leg measurements display.

SO what's the best way to do it? Do I need to assign EVERY combination like this:

40" Waist 34" Leg
40" Waist 36" Leg
40" Waist 38" Leg
42" Waist 32" Leg
42" Waist 34" Leg and so on... There would be 32 lines of attributes!

I can't see any other way of managing stock. Could I create all the 40" jeans as seperate products, hide them, and then link them somehow?

Any advise from people who have solved this issue?

That is the only way to manage stock that I can see

A possible solution would be to make a single product "40" waist. The next product "42" waist and so on. Then each product would only have the leg length attribute to choose from.

People generally know their waist size, so they could click on their waist size and then choose their leg length. It is not perfect, but it would probably work.
