Where are all the pages kept?

I want to find all the pages including each page for the inventory. I'm not sure though where all the pages are in the ftp folder? Any suggestions. I get overwhelmed when I do a search for .html.

Re: Where are all the pages kept?

Which "pages" are you talking about? If you mean pages of your website, there is no such thing as an individual page file. All Zen Cart pages are made up on the fly by incorporating the various required elements, looking up appropriate information, etc. Once it has all been assembled, it is sent to your browser for display. When you click a link to go to another page, the one you were on evaporates forever and the new page is built and sent to you.

Re: Where are all the pages kept?

I want to edit the .html of each page though and make changes. Is there someway within the admin settings of zen cart to do that? Or within file manager in hosting.

Yes it is possible however there aren't any "HTML" pages per-say. Everything you want to edit needs to be backed up and use the override system, the products are edited within the catalog portion by clicking on the meta tag icon.

You must have a url rewriter installed

Re: Where are all the pages kept?

No, you can't.
URL rewriters only change the address that shows in the top of the screen, they have zero to do with the actual content of the page.

Re: Where are all the pages kept?

You can edit different parts of the HTML output in different places, some in language files where output is "defined", and some in the database (accessed through your Zen Cart admin) where you can change category/product descriptions and other text.

If you let us see exactly which parts of your site you want to edit, we can probably tell you where to do it.

Re: Where are all the pages kept?

I had the same confusion many years ago - having been brought up on raw HTML since the early 1990's.

What everyone is telling yo here, is that a DYNAMIC CONTENT SITE does not contain "html pages" in the way you understand them.

Sure... what gets sent to a person's browser screen is indeed HTML, but the "page" is built up by the PHP CODE, and it gathers together all the bits and pieces a "page" may need.

So when someone goes to your site, the code file "index.php" starts the process of building "content" for the visitor, and will assemble the "home page". It will collect stuff from the database, from certain files, from image folders, from css folders, from javascript folders and possibly some stuff off other servers.

A "home page" can comprise over 200 "elements" - all gathered up by the PHP and structured into HTML (automatically).

When a visitor clicks a link, the PHP again goes about the task of assembling the NEXT "page", and depending on what link was clicked (maybe "add to cart"), it will not only build the next page, but will also perform some calulations, store some info in the database, start recording what's going on with that visitor, and a whole lot more.

Then, when the visitor clicks another link (eg: "Go to checkout") the PHP again gets RID of the page they are on (it evaporates as Glenn says) and it builds a NEW page, gathering up the contents of the cart, working out totals and shipping etc...

Sure... there are HTML elements embedded in the PHP - because at the end of it all, a browser needs HTML to render the content.

But there are no "flat html" pages as you know them.

There is NO re-written version. There are NO html pages to edit. They DO NOT EXIST. Pages are CREATED when a link is clicked, or an action is requested. They are BUILT UP by the php code, in a few microseconds, and then the resultant html is sent to the person's browser screen. When a link is clicked, that html is ERASAED, RUBBED-OUT, THROWN AWAY. And a NEW html page is built up in its place. That also takes a few hundredths of a second. And it is then sent down the internet wires to the person's computer screen. When another link is clicked, the page they are on is ERASAED, RUBBED-OUT, THROWN AWAY.

To change the CONTENT of a page, you edit data in the database, or edit DEFINE STATEMENTS in PHP Language files.

To change STRUCTURE, you edit PHP Template Files and CSS Code.

To change BEHAVIOUR, you edit PHP Class, Function and Module Files.

To change DESIGN, you create appropriate template IMAGES and tweak your CSS files.

But... there are NO HTML PAGES... Please understand this. They do not exist.
