Anyone Try AreYouHuman anti-Spam code?

Hi

I really like the "AreYouHuman" alternative to CAPTCHA and the like. it's free and the have lightbox-style code as well as form code. Has anyone tried it? They have ready-made plugins for common blogs but I don't see any carts listes.

We really have a spam problem with reviews. The CAPTCHA module is so finicky I don't turn it on everywhere. Contact Us form is about the only place I use it. It's really, really hard to solve so I'd like a friendlier test for customers. And I love AreYouHuman!

It loads a little cartoon and you have to drag objects to prove you're not a bot. http://areyouahuman.com/

So. Has anyone integrated it yet?

Just had a look at that and it looks like a much better option than Captcha. I've signed up and put a request through to see if they'll create the plugin for Zen Cart - would be handy if an experience Plug-In Creator would pick up the challenge to create the plug in though for those of us who are not that experienced with the coding side of things ;-)

Re: Anyone Try AreYouHuman anti-Spam code?

Looks like we'll have to wait for someone on ZenCart to create the Plugin. I received the following from 'AreYouHuman' today...

Hi Mark,

Max from Are You a Human here, writing in response to the feedback you submitted via our web site. Thanks for writing in! While we do hope to support Zen Cart eventually, right now it's not a priority for us. My apologies!

Best,
Max

Anti-spam is built-in with 1.5.1. Seems to be working fine.

Hi, I'm getting spam 'contact us' messages through, could be because i'm using 'Sheffield Blue' template with the hoverbox contact us part? I've asked Anne on the support thread if she's able to help but not had a response yet.

You might want to look into whether or not both versions of "Contact Us" are using the standard files. We removed the second from all of Anne's templates we have used simply because we didn't want or need two separate ones.

I am also using the Sheffield Blue template and we are getting hundreds of spam emails a day, BUT I did update the code for the hoverbox part to include the honeytrap css doohickey that is in 1.5.1., that did stop spam originally but now its back up to 100s a day

Re: Anyone Try AreYouHuman anti-Spam code?

Perhaps bots are looking for the picaflor azul links in the template files and that's how they know to spam you? Or the zen cart references in the various template files like /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/html_header.php and tpl_footer.php? I have removed all references to zen cart, even in comments that show up in the html, including renaming zenid and use the css spam mod and have 0 spam for well over a year or year and a half (we get about 3000 unique visitors a day), whenever that thread was first started. And I seem to recall someone posted a timer in that thread that should help those persistent, pesky bots that still get through.

I seriously balk at forcing a customer to do any extra steps like CAPTCHA or this anti-bot script that the OP listed. Best way to lose a potential customer. It's better to have to delete 100 spam emails every day than lose customers, in my book anyway. I mean, it's as simple as pressing the delete key after all. But, try my suggestion, you might find you reduce or eliminate spam altogether. Or should I be knocking on some wood right now?

Not sure how the fact that it's a Zen Cart site makes it a target for contact-us spam and more than any other contact-us form would be abused for spam.

Not more or less of a target, every site is a target. Just that they are searching for sites that have known ways to get around bot-stopping methods, every platform will have it's own default bot blocking methods and they all differ in specific ways, just like every platform has it's own peculiar security vulnerabilities and therefore a list of methods to get around them. And therefore there are likely certain bot routines written to perform certain functions when they come across certain platform-specific sites. I am sure this goes on with every platform, although I have had great success with the method I described, perhaps due to the reasons I listed or like I said perhaps we are just lucky and need to knock on wood.

Re: Anyone Try AreYouHuman anti-Spam code?

I tried the timer but it makes very little difference, as most of the bots seem to take between 22 and 90 seconds to fill in the form.

Shouldn't be too hard to integrate that the "are you human" thingie though

Yep.. and for this reason it's doubtful anyone will building this add-on anytime soon IMHO..

or if you REALLY need this you can consider hiring someone to build this mod for you.. as nigel says it seems like it's probably relatively easy to put together for an experienced coder.
