Enableing 'Categories - Always Show on Main Page' removes centerboxes?

When I enable 'Categories - Always Show on Main Page' my Featured centerbox dissapears, when I disable it, the Featured centerbox appears back.
(Featured centerbox is enabled in 'Show Featured Products on Main Page')
Is this normal or is my shop malfunctioning?

If yes, how can it be overriden?

If no, how do I fix it?

If you are using the Configuration ... Layout Settings:

Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories
Always Show Categories and SubCategories
0= off, just show Top Categories
1= on, Always show Categories and SubCategories when selected

Main Page - Opens with Category
0= Top Level Categories
Or enter the Category ID#
Note: Sub Categories can also be used Example: 3_10

'Main Page - Opens with Category'
is turned off (0) because I dont want it to open with a specific category, I want all categories to be listed so I am using 'Categories - Always Show on Main Page'

'Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories'
can be turned on or off, doesnt change anything

'Show Featured Products - below Product Listing'
this option seems to be irrelevant since it regards only to the centerbox inside a category product listing, not to the centerbox on the main page (it also shows only featured products from the category you are currently in, which I would like not to be the case)

What is your setting on:

But I don't understand why since I haven't set my main page to open with a category, and why this alone wouldnt work:
Show Featured Products on Main Page

p.s. is there any way to move the featured products centerbox to the top of main page except hardcodeing it? Categories list is showing on top, and the sort order is only relevant for the centerboxes under it, in case you have more than one.

You could customize your templates and overrides for the file:
tpl_index_categories.php

and move the code for the Categories below the all the centerboxes just above the closing </div> for the code ...

I am having a similar problem. I can't get categories to show on main page. It shows on my other website with layout settings-show categories=1 but has no effect on my current store.

Have you an URL to your site that we could perhaps peek at?

I prefer to not post URLs on any forum. I sent you a private message. But in the mean time, I fingered it out. I had a blank instead of a 0 in the appropriate field for displaying categories on Main page. You would think blank would not be an option.

Thanks for the update that this was cause by an incorrect setting on the Category being blank rather than 0 ...

We will work on some method to protect you from yourself when this error is made of using the wrong setting ... :cool:
