Before I kill you with details, let me say kudos to the Zencart Team for providing this outstanding software and support. You guys and gals rock!
I've been trying to figure out how to set up my shipping for my dropship supplied website for over a week now. I've read several help threads and this one seems to be the place where, maybe, I can get some good help.
I have 9 months, 8 - 16 hours a day, of website development with Zencart under my belt and have successfully learned how to get the data from my dropshipper into the cart. Shipping is kicking my but though...
I have zencart 1.5 with easypopulate 4.0, UPS, and database backup modules installed.
The UPS module:
It prices shipping nearly twice the rate that my dropshipper charges. I changed the module settings to match my dropshippers methods. That marginally lowered the rates. I also changed the tare settings in the admin configuration to 0 and that also only changed pricing marginally.
I changed the zone.php file to show 8 zones like UPS and tried creating the zones this way. However, there rates are based off of zip codes rather than states. Several states fell into 2 different zones if I did it this way...I nixed that idea completely.
I've been experimenting with the countries, zones, and definitions but I'm simply stumped...I don't get it :(
I even tried using pricing by attributes to add flat shipping rates back into the cost. That didn't work out, besides, I think that module is more for differences in prices between colors and sizes...please correct me if I'm wrong.
Initially, I turned on all of the shipping functions I needed in admin but that made all of the different methods of shipping show up when I ran a test order.
If a product is free shipping, I don't want any of the other methods showing up (at checkout).
If it is flat rate, I do not want any other methods showing up. I also need the flat rate charge, in my datafeed, to be added to the base price. I've experimented with adding this amount in my excel file but it will have an adverse effect the competitive display on my sale prices.
If my datafeed says the product is UPS, then I need only for the UPS option to show up at check out and the UPS rates to display properly and closer to the rates that my supplier is giving me.
If my datafeed says the product is USPS, then I need only for the USPS option to show up at check out and the USPS rates to display properly.
FedEx...same as above.
My dropshipper offers:
Free Shipping to 48 states
Flat Rate to 48 states
UPS Ground Rates (Residential) to 48 states
USPS Rates to 48 states
Now, dealing with all of these different methods has overwhelmed me and I know I need to focus on one at a time.
At present, only 1437 of the 7202 products are active on my site...that is the free shipping products. I can triple that amount if you can tell me how to handle the flat rate issue.
Obviously, I really want to get all 7202 products available for sale.
If you could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
Mike
