merchantinc gateway?

Running Zencart v1.5.1...everything is fine at this point.

I'm considering adding the services available at https://www DOT merchantinc DOT com/ to my store.

Just wondering if anyone has used or is using this company's services.

If so, how would you rate the service as a whole? I mean, is it crappy :no:, as in 'Stay away' or is it good, as in 'They're cool' :yes:?

If your answer is 'Stay away', what are the reasons, and what cost-effective solution(s) would/could you suggest? I cannot afford $50 or $60 a month at this point in time.

In my experience, whenever it says "As low as" or has an asterisk next to a statement that sends you to a "with approved credit" addition at the bottom of the page.....

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett MIGHT qualify.

You can try anything for six months or a year if they allow you to quit in that time frame. Those that require a year or two-year contract are generally sucking you in for a cancellation fee or your continuation in view of having to pay the fee.

With one business, we've gone strictly Square as its annual cost was far less than using any other merchant account offered at the time. Of course, this is not an online option but, ANY TIME a merchant account form has a blank, that is an option for the seller to get the best deal he can for HIM not you. The higher he can get you to accept, the more commission he makes.

I am concerned that there is no real definition of how their integration works with other than their cart.

Lastly, most merchant account companies change the rules when you change methods. Different fees and costs for ...

1. Orders over the phone
2. Orders over the internet
3. Orders taken in person (Swiped)

Often times, the provider will require as many as three accounts to do all three of the above.

Thanks for both of your replies...dbltoe, I don't know how this got posted in 2 different threads, but of course, anything can and will happen. That's been my experience anyhow.

I really thought that the total 'cost per month' including the Authroize.net gateway fee was WAY, WAY too low. I even chatted with their support online concerning it, but they insist it's only $7.95 a month plus processing fees. If I had a way to be absolutely positive that thuis would always be the bottom line, I'd jump on it...BUT...

The whole problem is that my sales aren't stellar at this point (due to a redsign of my site, I think), and I simply can't afford $50 or $60 a month for this stuff.

Oh well, I'll keep looking...
