EZ Page URL

Hi all, I would love to change the default page urls on my ez pages. So for instance, I created a new ez page named FAQ's but the url is crazy, it shows this: http://theposhbox.net/ZenCart/index.php?main_page=page&id=3

How and where can I change this to reflect something like: http://theposhbox.net/ZenCart/faqs.html

Or I could have that wrong, but you get the idea.. Any help would be great! Thanks so much..

An explanation of why you want to do that would help. Many here, including me, don't see any reason to rewrite URLs, but those who do mostly recommend this mod:

And if you do go to a URL rewriter, please don't do theposhbox.net/ZenCart/faqs.html . It is a holdover from ancient days when it was believed that search engines didn't like dynamic pages, so people appended .html to try to fool search engines into thinking the pages were static. It is totally unnecessary, misleading, and makes the URL longer and harder to read/type.

Use theposhbox.net/ZenCart/faqs and the page address will be clear and instantly understandable.

Before going overboard with URL rewriters, there is a very simple/easy way to achieve this specific result.

1. Log into your cPanel (or equivalent)
2. Click on the link for domain redirects.
3. select "theposhbox.net" from the domain menu
4. Enter "/ZenCart/faqs.html" into the box next to the domain name.
5. Enter "http://theposhbox.net/ZenCart/index.php?main_page=page&id=3" into the box below the domian name (redirects to ->)
6. Click the 'add' button.

Now when you point your browser to http://theposhbox.net/ZenCart/faqs.html the page http://theposhbox.net/ZenCart/index.php?main_page=page&id=3 will be displayed instead.

Add other redirects as needed.

NOTE: Performing these rewrites/redirects will have ZERO to NEGLIGIBLE EFFECTS ON SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS.
The only benefit is that http://theposhbox.net/ZenCart/faqs.html is a little easier to remember/type, but unless you publish this URL off-web no one is ever going to type it anyway... its easier to to do a google search and click on the link. :)

I seriously can't remember the last time I typed in a full URL into my browser. Can you?

Be VERY careful...

This is not an area for "novices".

The smallest errors can break your site, and also get you badly punished by the search engines.

As has been said, there is absolutely NO NEED TO TAMPER AND TINKER with zencart's URL's.

Many people do, and the threads on this forum with the MOST PROBLEMS are the threads discussing URL re-write - indicating that hundreds of thousands of people have messed up their sites and their search engine rankings by tinkering with the URL.

As I always say to people who want to tinker with the URL... PLEASE GO AHEAD AND TINKER if you are in competition with me... The chances of you breaking your site are high - and that means I have one less competitor to worry about ! :D
