Require Login for Certain Categories or Products

We have a Zen Cart installation that we are still doing some final configuring and fine tuning on. One thing that we need to do is allow customers to be able to purchase certain items (all in one category) without having to have an account or logging in. Other products require an account and the customer must be logged in since they are regulated products.
How can I accomplish this? I am sure it must be pretty simple.
The products that don't require login will be available by a button on an external page.

Zen Cart has no builtin feature that will allow only one cat to be visible and purchasable while others require an account
