Template front page before website...

Hello,
Going to try explain what I mean, sorry if it makes no sense!

I currently have a lovely template that is the same through out the website. I would like to maybe keep this, however I would like the front page only to open as a different style. Kind of like when you open front pages that have a flash intro but instead of the flash intro, 3 sections that go to different parts of the site which then link through to the existing site and temolate.

Does this make sense???

Thank you
Amy

Re: Template front page before website...

It sounds like you're asking about a 'jump' or 'splash' page, or a page that opens before your potential customer sees your Zencart site. I don't recommend doing that, as it makes the visitor jump through an additional and unnecessary hoop before he sees the stuff you want to sell him, but you can create your page and name it index.html and place it in the root directory of your store. Most servers are configured to load index.html before index.php.

Re: Template front page before website...

Hi,
Might try that, it is just that I wanted to try it as I am now going to have to split my site into three sections due to what I offer as the menu for products and services is very long.

Thank you

Re: Template front page before website...

Hi,
I have started to try it but decided it will be a better option to split the left hand menu up a little. If I was to put a break inbetween each bit, how would I do this in the template...

From this...
item
item
item
item
item
item
item
Item
Item

To this...
item
item
item

item
item
item

item
item
item

If you need more info on the template it is estorenow and my web address is craftjam.co.uk

Thank you
Amy

Re: Template front page before website...

That is one of the features of Categories Dressing from Plugins... creating "category groups" that can have their own separate containers and styling, in whatever way you wish.

Re: Template front page before website...

Hi,
Just looking at trying that now but the information on the download page says... This is a mix-and-match group of alterations you can make to the appearance of the standard Zen Cart "Categories" sidebox. Does it matter that I am not using the original template? I am using estorenow.

Also, there seemed to be no instructions in the folder so was wondering, once I upload the files, where do i go to so I can make alterations to how the menu appears?

Thanks
A

Re: Template front page before website...

The Categories Dressing sidebox replaces the stock categories sidebox, or if your template uses an alternate categories sidebox, you can disable that and enable sideboxes/categories.php in admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller.

Styling the appearance of your sidebox elements is a matter of using CSS on the element classes/ids/etc., and is such a diverse set of possibilities that it would be impossible to cover in a readme document. You simply need to know or learn some CSS (there are lots of free online tutorials if you need them). The readme does mention how to get groups of categories in the first place, and the resulting kinds of ids you will have to add styling to.

Re: Template front page before website...

I have tried changing bits of code but do not seem to be able to get it how I want it. I have attached an image of how it looks when I install it all.Attachment 12864

I have managed to change some headings, however I only want one non clickable major heading for each section and I cannot seem to get rid of cat 3 sample and figure out how the divides work, especially if I add more products to the menu at a later date. Tried changing all different parts but it just isn't right.

Thanks

Re: Template front page before website...

Hello,
Sorry, added the wrong image. this is what I currently have. The only thing I am having an issue with is which part to adjust to move the divides between the categories and how to remove the numbers at the end of each line. I have removed them before but cannot remember how I did it.

Thanks

Re: Template front page before website...

The numbers following category names are a stock ZC feature which can be turned off in Configuration > My Store > Show Category Counts.
(I usually have to go searching for it when I want to answer the question because it isn't in Layout Settings where all the other categories sidebox items are.)
