Can't upload templates

I have tried to upload new templates. I have gotten templates from more than one source. Although I follow videos and instructions fanatically, I am getting just headers appearing of the new template or a no show in tools.
Can someone please point me at a new template and instructions for installing. I need to know exactly which files are to be uploaded and where they are to be placed. Sounds obvious but I have struggled to do this so far.

The most common mistake made when installing templates is uploading the files to the wrong place. Give us an example of a (free) template you've tried to install and we can advise further. In most cases, the template files are in the proper folders, and one just needs to upload the 'includes' folder of the template to the root (top) directory of your staore (not the /templates folder).
