assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

I have my site almost setup V:2.5. ( https://www.billrauscher.com/outboards) I just can't get shipping to work the way I need it. I would like to use 2 carriers (at least to start with). USPS, UPS. I will be shipping small things and large heavy things. I also want to use store pickup for everything but that is not at issue here.

For the small things, I would like to use USPS. The large heavy things, UPS. I think the easiest way would be to have 1-25 pound packages got to USPS. 26-75 pound packages to go to UPS. (Please tell me if I am off base here or there is a better way).

How do I configure shipping so ONLY the carrier that fits the criteria show as options on checkout. Right now, if I want to ship a 53# motor, the customer gets choices that include USPS Priority Small flat rate box, USPS padded envelope etc....This is not right!

Please help
Thank you
Bill

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

You could try customizing the module:
/includes/modules/shipping/usps.php

in the function update_status with the code in RED:

    // disable only when entire cart is free shipping
    if (zen_get_shipping_enabled($this->code)) {
      $this->enabled = ((MODULE_SHIPPING_USPS_STATUS == 'True') ? true : false);
    }

[B]// bof: disable on weight > 25
global $shipping_weight;
if ($shipping_weight > 25) {
  $this->enabled = false;
}
// eof: disable on weight > 25
[/B]
    if ($this->enabled == true) {

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

Thank You Ajeh...It looked good on paper but didn't do anything. I still get both USPS and UPS.

Do you have a plan "B"?

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

WAIT...I think we are making progress......When I checkout a product, and click on "estimate shipping" it only shows UPS and NO listing for USPS!!! Awesome! BUT, when I click "checkout", is lists both UPS and USPS.

What code do I need now?
Do I have to input similar code in ups.php also???

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

UPDATE:
When I choose a large heavy(48lbs) product to buy, I add it to the cart. I then click "shipping estimator" and it lists ONLY UPS and a price. When I then click check out, the page will show both USPS as well as UPS. It default picks Priority Mail Flat Rate Box! Hard to get 48lbs in that little box!

Then, I delete the cart and buy a small item 12lbs. When I then click on "shipping estimator" , I get both USPS and UPS listed. The "checkout" page also lists both UPS and USPS. Again Priority Mail Flat Rate Box is chosen as the default.

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

What are your settings in the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... on the Maximum Weight and the Tare Rates?

If you add beneath the code:
global $shipping_weight;

and add the line:
echo 'USPS $shipping_weight: ' . $shipping_weight . '<br>';

Then add that 48lb product to the cart ... what do you see in the Shipping Estimator come up with that line?

And with that same 48lb product in the cart ... what do you see on the checkout_shipping page?

Now put in the cart just your 12lb product ... what do you see in the Shipping Estimator come up with that line?

And with that same 12lb product in the cart ... what do you see on the checkout_shipping page?

Now put both the 48lb and 12 lb product in the cart ... ... what do you see in the Shipping Estimator come up with that line?

And with that same 2 products in the cart ... what do you see on the checkout_shipping page?

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

**Thank you Ajeh for all this time your giving me to fix this. **

My input is shown in bold print.

My config settings are:
**
Enter the Maximum Package Weight you will ship 75 Info
Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight 0:3 ** I have no idea what this is or means!

Larger packages - added packaging percentage:weight 10:0 Info
Display Number of Boxes and Weight Status 0 Info
Order Free Shipping 0 Weight Status 0 Info
Shipping Estimator Display Settings for Shopping Cart 1

global $shipping_weight; This line was already there (second line of the script)
echo 'USPS $shipping_weight: ' . $shipping_weight . '<br>'; Added this line at the bottom of the code you said to add.

And with that same 48lb product in the cart ... what do you see on the checkout_shipping page? I see the same thing..The shipping page shows UPS ground as well as ALL the USPS choices with the Priority flat rate box checked as the default. The shipping estimator shows it correctly with just UPS as an option and no listing for USPS.

Now put in the cart just your 12lb product ... what do you see in the Shipping Estimator come up with that line?
And with that same 12lb product in the cart ... what do you see on the checkout_shipping page? The shipping estimator lists UPS (ideally, UPS should not be listed in this scenario) and USPS shipping choices with priority flat rate box checked as the default. The shipping page also lists it with UPS and USPS as choices with Priority flat rate box checked as default.

Now put both the 48lb and 12 lb product in the cart ... ... what do you see in the Shipping Estimator come up with that line?
And with that same 2 products in the cart ... what do you see on the checkout_shipping page? Shipping estimator shows UPS only (which is correct) The shipping pages show all choices still with priority mail checked as the default.

By the way AJEH, if you would like to try it, the website is https://www.billrauscher.com/outboards.
Also, If it would help you, I could give you the password (privately) for the back end.

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

Also AJEH, below is the code I entered as you requested. Maybe I didn't do it right????

function update_status() {
global $order, $db;
if (IS_ADMIN_FLAG == TRUE) return;

// disable only when entire cart is free shipping
if (zen_get_shipping_enabled($this->code)) {
  $this->enabled = ((MODULE_SHIPPING_USPS_STATUS == 'True') ? true : false);
}

// bof: disable on weight > 25
global $shipping_weight;
if ($shipping_weight > 25) {
$this->enabled = false;
echo 'USPS $shipping_weight: ' . $shipping_weight . '<br>';
}
// eof: disable on weight > 25

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

USPS only ships a Maximum weight of 70lbs so between your Maximum setting of 75 and the Tare rates of adding 3lbs on small boxes and 10% on Medium to Large boxes you could be going higher than USPS maximum weights ...

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

You appear to have something weird with your shipping_estimator ...

Is this a LIVE site or one that you are building?

If not LIVE, can you switch to the Classic Template?

The shipping_estimator should open a popup and on the update, stay in that same popup and not switch the whole browser to the shipping_estimator results ...

On your site, when not logged in, the shipping_estimator does the popup and when you hit update, it changes the whole browser page to the shipping_estimator and I believe that means closing the shipping_estimator will close the browser or close the browser tab for your site and yo ulose the customer ...

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

I am building the site but it is LIVE.
Also...you are correct, the estimator does do that full page thing and yes, it closes the browser and you have to re-open it and re-log in.

So...are you saying I should use the classic template instead of this one????
Is the code you suggested I ad in the right spot/put in correctly?

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

I am suggesting you test your site if you temporarily switch to Classic Template to see if it fixes that problem with the shipping_estimator ...

On the code, I am looking into a better fix as there appears to be a possible small bug in the shipping modules and I am trying to find a work around for you ...

Re: assistence with configuring shipping with multiple carriers...PLEASE!!!

AJEH, I also tried setting the site back to classic and got the same thing. I also thought it might be Firefox so I tried IE. Same thing. I then cleared the cache hoping that might work but it didn't.
