Review duplicate content - any solution?

Hi There,

I've searched high and low for a solution to this issue, with no answers thus far. I simply don't want the content of reviews to appear on multiple pages on my site, as this is bad for seo. I can see no way of stopping this from happening, so any help doing this would be much appreciated.

I see other have asked this in the past, but have received no replies.

Thanks,
Dan

I think you are asking about the review sidebox ? If right, you can turn off it in admin - tools - layout boxes controller.

What are the URLs of those specific pages?

What Zen Cart version are you using?
What addons/plugins do you have installed?

Re: Review duplicate content - any solution?

Certainly, as far as I can see it is on two pages:

site.com/category/product1
site.com/category/product1/reviews

If there's a way to stop the /reviews pages from being generated that should sort the problem out.

I'm using zen cart 1.5.1 and the reviews system came with the zen cart install if I recall correctly. There is a Ceon URI Mapping module installed so I don't know if this would have any effect, though I would have thought not.

In response to cvhainb's reply, thank you for the suggestion but that isn't what I'm referring to.

Thanks guys,
Dan

Re: Review duplicate content - any solution?

Those URLs are definitely made from your URI Mapping module, not from default Zen Cart code.

Re: Review duplicate content - any solution?

But surely the extra page would still exist without the URI module, just without the simpler /review directory name. That's the issue I'm having.

You could try using your admin's built-in feature: Catalog->Product Types, click on the product type associated with product1 (most likely Product - General). Click on the "Edit Layout" button. Set "Show Product Reviews Button" to "False".

Perhaps, but in the absence of knowing what the URI mapping addon is mapping from (ie: the original ZC URL without all the rewrites your addon is doing), I can't give you any useful assistance.
And, since you've decided not to supply the actual URL, I can't look at your actual site's HTML to inspect the claims of duplicate content to offer useful feedback about it either.

Re: Review duplicate content - any solution?

Apologies for not supplying a url originally. Here are the urls, in fact I've noticed the reviews are in three locations:

park-walk.co.uk/trousers-harem-pants/trousers/thick-cotton-trousers-gi-style
park-walk.co.uk/trousers-harem-pants/trousers/thick-cotton-trousers-gi-style/reviews
park-walk.co.uk/trousers-harem-pants/trousers/thick-cotton-trousers-gi-style/review?reviews_id=16

Thanks,
Dan
