Special zone rates for a specific product

We calculate shipping using zone rates. We'd like set up a special set of zones for one product. Specifically we'd like to ship this product free in the U.S. and add a shipping cost for international orders.

Can this be done for only a single product without affecting the other products?

How do you have your Zone Rate zones configured right now?

We have four zones:

US/PR, Canada, Europe, Asia

Could you be a tad more specific and go to the Modules ... Shipping ... and click on Zone Rates zones and post the settings that show in the right hand panel? :lookaroun

What would determine the amount of the shipping for International on the Product that gets Free Shipping for the US?

Would International just be based on your existing Zone Rate charges?

Good question. The client didn't say, except that there would be a charge for international shipping. But if there's something that could be worked using existing International rates, then it might be worth a shot.

On your Zone Settings, you have both US and PR combined ...

Do you want PR to also have the Free Shipping just like the US or just the US itself?

Both would still have the free shipping

You could try this ... mark the Product as Always Free Shipping ...

Then edit the file:
/includes/modules/shipping/zones.php

and change the line for the IF statement to:

So that your Zone 1 definition gets the Free Shipping and the other Zone definitions do not ...

That should exclude the Price of the Free Shipping Product from the calculation on the shipping charges when the quote is on that First Zone definition used by US and PR ...

I have been following this discussion with interest, Linda and John, and I'm waiting for the outcome. My problem is slightly different. I use zonetable rates on Zencart 139(h), with 11 geozones (zone definitions). And my shipping calculations are based on weight. (I sell books.) I notice John's is on price. I'd like to offer free shipping for specific products in Malaysia, Zone 1 (where I live). Can I edit my zonetable.php to do that? How would I code it? I am a newbie.
