Free Shipping Question

All of my products are set up as Free Shipping, but that applies to standard shipping. I would like to offer 2nd Day Air and that would incur a shipping rate, depending on number of items ordered.

I was going to do a test order and then on page 1 of 3 - Delivery Information, it says:

**Shipping Method:

This is currently the only shipping method available to use on this order.**

and the **Free Shipping **is enabled and I can't disable it, nor do I really want to. I just wanted to add the option of 2nd Day Air.

If it matters, I have set up Paypal Express Checkout, and Paypal is the only merchant account I am using.

My products are drop-shipped, but I have the option of offering 2nd day air. The price on that varies depending on the number of items purchased. I just enabled PayPal Express Checkout and I am looking to test a few pruchases.

Other than that, I don't know how to answer your question :(

Re: Free Shipping Question

Have you tried instead of marking the Products as Always Free Shipping to use the shipping module for Free Shipping Options freeoptions and set the Total to >= 0 then the Item Rate item and set how much per item to charge?

First, I am NOT live yet. Do I need to be live before any of these shipping options will work?

I charge sales tax for orders shipping to Nevada. Is this the same as Tax Class? Right now I have UPS set up as:

Tax Class
Taxable Goods

Tax Basis
Shipping

Shipping Zone
Nevada

Now when I do a test order, I am getting NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME, Sorry, we are not shipping to your region at this time.

Prior to making the change you suggested, when I did test orders I was on Always Free Shipping and the only option offered was COD. That was the only way I could complete a test order.

Now I have already signed up with PayPal Express and COD is no longer offered, and Free Shipping Options is Sort Order 1, UPS is sort order 2.

I am stopped immediately on Step 1 - Delivery Information, with the notation Not Available At This Time.

I hope I was clear with the above.

Re: Free Shipping Question

If Products are marked Always Free Shipping or 0 weight and you have 0 weight defined as Free Shipping, then no other shipping methods show ...

If you want Free Shipping and UPS rates then you need weight on ALL Products and have them NOT marked as Always Free Shipping ...

Then, use the UPS shipping module and the Free Shipping Options freeoptions shipping module with Total >= 0 setup ...

Now, you will see both UPS and the Free Shipping Options freeoptions on all orders where UPS gives quotes based on weight and destination for the shipping methods you have selected ...

If you do not want to charge by weight but rather by Item count, then use Item Rate and set your Item Rate charge to calculate the amount being charged ...

I am trying to help with this but, I have never had to set up shipping at all, the store that used it set that up himself.

All others have been virtual downloads so no shipping necessary.

I set up the ups and shipping options mod see images for their settings

but where do I find Item Rate?

ok yes I found that per item and set the settigs as such
Enable Item Shipping
Do you want to offer per item rate shipping?

True

Shipping Cost
The shipping cost will be multiplied by the number of items in an order that uses this shipping method.
3.50

Handling Fee
Handling fee for this shipping method.
0

Tax Class
Use the following tax class on the shipping fee.
taxable goods

Tax Basis
On what basis is Shipping Tax calculated. Options are
Shipping - Based on customers Shipping Address
Billing Based on customers Billing address
Store - Based on Store address if Billing/Shipping Zone equals Store zone

Shipping

Shipping Zone
If a zone is selected, only enable this shipping method for that zone.

none

Sort Order
Sort order of display.
0

and this will set the shipping via 2nd day ups to be by the amount of iems..so if they buy 1 item then the fee will be whatever I write in ther but if they buy 3 items then they will get charged the feex3?

set the settings and no shipping shows then on next page I get this error:

Re: Free Shipping Question

Look in Modules ... Shipping ... what shipping modules do NOT have the red dot?

Do those all have green dots?

Do any of the shipping modules have a Sort Order other than 0?

In the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... what is the setting on:

Order Free Shipping 0 Weight Status
If there is no weight to the order, does the order have Free Shipping?
0= no
1= yes

Re: Free Shipping Question

Free Shipping Options order 0
Per Item order 1
United Parcel Service order 2

Order Free Shipping 0 Weight Status
If there is no weight to the order, does the order have Free Shipping?
0= no

forgot to mention that she does have free shipping so the charges will be for the next day delivery of orders only.

Re: Free Shipping Question

Could you number your Shipping modules Sort Order to either ALL be 0 or ALL have unique values greater than 0?

Are any of your Products marked as: Virtual? Always Free Shipping?

Re: Free Shipping Question

when I set them all for 0 order I got a message stating it could cause problems with estimator (something like that)

no there are none set to virtual here they are are physical deliverable items.

She does although have an always free shipping image and does wish for US to have no shipping normally but will have the ability to have next day with ups to offer.

that is why I uninstalled free shipping cause I think you told her to have either free shipping or shipping options/ups but that just plain free shipping would cause ups not to be shown/used

or did I manage to turn that around, I am good at that

right now I have their sort order as options order 10--per item as 15 with ups as 20

Re: Free Shipping Question

And all the dots are green, correct?

As to Always Free Shipping, are you saying the Products ARE or ARE NOT marked as Always Free Shipping?

Re: Free Shipping Question

While Products marked as Always Free Shipping will show the icon ... they also will only use the FREE SHIPPING! freeshipper module and all other shipping modules will turn off ...

What is the goal on shipping? Are you trying to give the shipping methods of Free Shipping and use another shipping module for other methods of shipping as alternatives for the customer to choose from on all Products?

If so, just have the shipping modules:
UPS
Free Shipping Options freeoptions

and set weights to the Products so you can get proper shipping quotes from UPS ...

To turn off the Always Free Shipping on all Products, you can run in the Tools ... Install SQL Patches ... the code:

UPDATE products SET product_is_always_free_shipping = 0;

Now if you want the Free Shipping icon to show on the product_info page, you can customize the template with your templates and overrides for:
/includes/templates/your_templates_dire/tpl_product_info_display.php

and edit the code:

<!--bof free ship icon  -->
<?php if(zen_get_product_is_always_free_shipping($products_id_current) && $flag_show_product_info_free_shipping) { ?>
<div id="freeShippingIcon"><?php echo TEXT_PRODUCT_FREE_SHIPPING_ICON; ?></div>
<?php } ?>
<!--eof free ship icon  -->

and change it to read:

<!--bof free ship icon  -->
<?php if([B]true || [/B]zen_get_product_is_always_free_shipping($products_id_current) && $flag_show_product_info_free_shipping) { ?>
<div id="freeShippingIcon"><?php echo TEXT_PRODUCT_FREE_SHIPPING_ICON; ?></div>
<?php } ?>
<!--eof free ship icon  -->

and that will force the Free Shipping icon to always show regardless of the setting ...

Re: Free Shipping Question

Yes she wants to offer them the option of getting their order via UPS with 2nd day shipping.

she wants to set up a table of sorts with this sort of:

x1 item = xx amount of shipping
2 and so forht in the table

I already have the free shipping to be shown regardless...LOL

She does not want the shipping to be per weight but per item...as an incentive for the customer or several getting together where they live and all order on one order to save shipping coss and split the cost of the entire order.I shall try the instructions below and report back later.

Thanks.

Re: Free Shipping Question

When you say a Table of rates for the number of Items, can you expand on that?

Depending on the bottom line of what shipping rates you really want, this could be:
Per Item item
Table table
Zone Rate zones

more details the better ... :smile:
