Shipping Question: I need add on items to ship free with order but not alone

I have a customer who sells books. She also sells greeting cards. She wants her shoppers to be able to add on greeting cards to their book order for no additional shipping charge. If shoppers purchase the cards alone, they will be charged shipping, but a max of $6 for unlimited cards.

I tried to do a handling charge of $6 and mark the cards free shipping as that would solve it, but the handling charge is not calculated with free shipping.

I need to figure this out. Your help is appreciated!

How much per card when cards are all that is in the order?

It will be about $1.00 per card with a $6.00 max for unlimited cards. Here is the site: https://www.learnstatehistory.com - The cards are the Word in Season section.

I am using the table shipping by price. The bulk of her orders will be books.

$6.00 up to $59.99 and $60 and up is 10%.

And these cards are Free when in an order with other things but then have a shipping cost of $1.00 each up to $6.00, correct?

For everyone. I dont think they will be shipping Internationally.

Are you only using the Table Rate table shipping module?

If you go to Modules ... Shipping ... and click on Table Rate table what shows in the right hand panel?

Yes, I am only using that module. I am not opposed to another soultion though.

This was not all that fun to write, but it now works where Cards are Free if in an order or other Products and if in an order with only Cards then the charge is $1.00 each with a maximum of $6.00 ...

Change the setting on:
// 1 is my parent category to indentify all subcategory products
$chk_parent_categories_id = 1;

to match your Parent categories_id for 73 ...
