Paypal plan options

PayPal offers Standard, Advanced and Pro. I see only Standard, Pro and Express in the Zencart configuration screens. We signed up for Advanced based on the benefits of not leaving our site and it's only $5 a month. Which Zencart option should we be selecting?

Isn't Express an option within the 3 they offer? Am I missing something?

Thank you all for all you do to help us.

Re: Paypal plan options

Hmmm. Thanks. Does Express allow credit cards as that is my main goal? Is Express a function of Standard as it doesn't seem to be a separate Paypal Plan. Sorry but a little confused on this.

Yes, Express accepts credit cards. Fact is, there's no reason to use Standard anymore, and I expect it to be removed from future Zencart versions.

Re: Paypal plan options

So is since I only see Standard, Advanced and Pro as plan options on Paypal, I should have a Standard Plan and Express is within Standard? Sorry but I just don't get that differentiation. BTW this is a business account.

Re: Paypal plan options

I guess that would be right. I haven't looked at Paypal's site in a while. It must be that Express is treated as a subset of Standard.

Re: Paypal plan options

Thanks. I appreciate your time. I installed it and the credit cards seem to be working ok so far except we have only VISA and Master Card clicked on in Zencart admin but the Paypal screens show Discover and AMEX too. They may or may not work I suppose, but how to I get them off? Is that through Paypal?

Re: Paypal plan options

I think that's at Paypal's discretion, since they are accepting the payment. I'm not sure why you would want to turn them off, anyway.

Re: Paypal plan options

Don't they have a much higher cost to process?

Not to you via paypal. You pay paypal a "set" fee. The rest is their cost.

I hope it doesn't unless there is a significant issue with maintaining support. A few months back, having the option to fall back on standard was the only way we were able to process transactions through paypal for I think at least three weeks. Yes, a combination of our host's and those downstream to paypal's fault (and ours for 1) staying with them and 2) not taking up an alternative payment system), but there were several others that were reporting problems at the same time that did not appear to have the same host as us.

So I hope that standard remains available in some way, but can understand that support may be limited as well.

Express stopped working, but Standard still worked ?

Yup. Who'd a thunk it. Express uses curl communication via secure telnet port 443 to communicate with the paypal servers. Around that time there were apparently various things going on on several sites, some were saying that they had updated the firewalls, other had been blocked by one of the processors in the middle of the communication path. My host never identified exactly what our issue was, but changing to standard allowed processing when express did not. They promised to do so, but didn't follow through even when asked again a second time. That aside, haven't had issue with them directly.
