Non existent gift certificate used to pay for order??

So I searched the forum but still this bug seems to be occuring, with no resolution that i can find

in 2006:
http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?44718-unconfirmed-Gift-Certificate-Coupon-payment-used-but-none-issued!/page2

in 2012:
http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?196677-Customer-paid-using-a-gift-certificate-coupon-but-none-were-actually-issued

in 2013:
http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?204795-Customer-Paid-with-Gift-Certificate-Coupon-Not-active&highlight=paid+gift+certificate

I'm using 1.5.0 and have had this occur on two completely different sites (both 1.5.0) hosted in different locations, with the only similar payment methods being used "direct bank transfer" and "paypal express checkout".

After using zen for 6 years, its happened on my site yesterday, someone placed an order and it came through as the payment method "gift certificate/coupon" but this is incorrect as no certificate was redeemed.

Main issue is that i cannot replicate this happening, but it appears that a customer during checkout has either 2 screens open at the same time, or they encounter an error at some point but then just get bounced to the checkout payment sucess page.

Anyone have any experience on how they thought this was solved in previous versions, so that i can check against my files.

thanks

Re: Non existent gift certificate used to pay for order??

So.. digging even further, I'm beginning to wonder if its not the certificate coupon that is the problem, but infact the paypal express checkout payment module, and the showing of the certificate as payment method is just a result of a bug during express checkout..

The only way to produce the output 'Gift Certificate/Coupon' in the email is by 'selecting' or 'returning' the defined 'PAYMENT_METHOD_GV'.

Do you have a step by step way to reproduce this issue?

Somewhere along the ZenCart steps it's changing the id to reference the 'GC/C' text or PayPal is sending the wrong id back.

Are you still running ZC v1.5.0? It would help if you would also identify any plugins that you have installed.

Yes, still using 1.5.0

i can list all my addons ... there are are quite a few, however this has also happened in another basic setup store, with the only similarity being the direct bank transfer and the paypal module.

I'm certain its the paypal module doing this.

Re: Non existent gift certificate used to pay for order??

OK, so it happened again, almost a year later

interestingly it seems to happen, when you add a product to cart, click the update cart button, go through checkout, select paypal as payment, it goes straight to the order comfirmation page with a blank area where it normally displays payment method.
I can now reproduce this error.
error logs show the same as this error, geting 2 errors per product in cart, shown when the update cart button is clicked.

checked the resolution posted and my files already updated, so must be something else. any ideas?

Try installing mydebugbacktrace for better error tracing.

https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1879

Can you post a link to your site? And then show the results of the above?
