Shipping and Order Options

We offer free sleeve packaged DVD sets with free shipping worldwide. However, we also offer an upgrade to a full package set (with case and artwork) for an additional fee. I need to be able to offer free shipping worldwide on the free sets and free US shipping on the upgrade sets but need to add an additional charge for International Shipping on the upgrade sets. I'm currently trying to use an attribute for this add on cost but some people outside the US are selecting Free US Shipping and placing their order and paying the reduced amount. Basically, if there is more than a $0 cost, and the ship to is outside the US, I need to add a flat rate shipping cost to their order.

As a secondary issue, we only allow one order with up to four free sets per month. Is there a way to limit the number of free sets added to cart? And also limit the number of free orders they can make in a month?

I'm using an attribute for the price difference. $0 - Sleeve Packaging, and then $10 - Full Packaging

No, that would quadruple our shipping costs. One order per month with a maximum of 4 free sets.

How many Products deviate from the norm on how your shipping appears to be setup ...

Example of norm:
/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=37

Example of deviant:
/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_12&products_id=71

There are nine that deviate. However, I can remove that subcategory and fix that issue because these items are also in their own category.

Yes, US is all 50 states including DC. Not territories and islands, just US addresses.

You could try using the add on for the Order Total extra fee and customize that to build in an extra charge for International customers based on creating a Zone for anyone not in the US 50 states plus DC ...

It would take a bit of work to identify the Products in the cart that include the attribute for the Full Package choices, but it could be done ...

It may not be a load of fun to write, but it can be done ...

Ok that's beyond my abilities, so I'll have to think of some other way for that issue.

As for the secondary issue, is there a way to limit the number of $0 items in the cart. For example, a person puts four free items in their cart and when attempting to add another free item they are told their shopping cart is full and proceed to checkout? (Hey, it never hurts to ask...)

That also will require custom coding to manage the shopping cart based on previous orders for the month ...

What should happen if I order on the 3rd of January 1 of the $0 items and then on the 7th of January I try to order another $0 item?

I'm not so much worried about the monthly part of it. I just want to limit the cart to four $0 items. I can do like I've done in the past and just not ship if they order more than once in a month. If it's not easily done I'll just have to live with it the way it is. Thanks again.

Do any other products have a $0 charge other than these particular kind of Products?

If the extra charge on shipping for international is based on:
1 Package - Full

2 Shipping Address is International (Based on a Zone Definition that you define)

Then you should be able to use this Order Total Add On that I customized where you can set the option_id and option_value_id to match your site ...

I believe you would change:

          $chk_options_id = 21;
          $chk_options_values_id = 74;

to be:

          $chk_options_id = 1;
          $chk_options_values_id = 1;

and that you would remove from the Products the Option Name for:
Shipping

and the matching Option Values:
Sleeve & US Free Shipping
Full Package International Shipping

I would test it first ...

The goal is to have your Products set up with Attributes where the only choice to make is the:
Package
Sleeve
Full Package

and then the shipping address determines any additional fee ...
