Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

Hi,

First, I need to say, I have been searched all threads here, and I have tried to find the problem in many ways, but still doesn't work. This is my first post here. I Think this website is very helpful since I have found tons of answers. Thanks for those who have devoted your times and intelligences.

As the title, I really have no clue :(. The circumstance has been the same...no product that matches..... Doesn't matter what key words I search. The other things are:

  1. I tried to look up the Collation in the database, they are all in utf8_general_ci is correct.
  2. I don't have SEO tool installed in my store.
  3. I tried to switch 3 other templates. (The search results are same)
  4. I manually added products to my store.( not through Easy Populate)
  5. Multiple Categories Link Manager is installed, and I did "Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID" first, then "Update ALL Products Price Sorter" in Store Manager.

Unfortunately, the search result still comes the same. I gratefully appreciate if someone would help me out.

(Zen Cart v1.5.1)

Thanks again,

Ruby

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

Have you tried replacing the includes/index_filters/default_filter.php with the core file?
Also check you includes/modules/pages/index/ files

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

Thanks for responding,

I did not replace the includes/index_filters/default_filter.php.
And there are header_php.php, jscript_easySlider.php and main_template_vars.php under includes/modules/pages/index/

How do I check them?

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

So this is a stock Zen Cart install?

Can you post a link so we can see the site?

Has someone been installing or uninstalling modules recently?

Look at the actual search files doing the searching:

includes/modules/pages/advanced_search/header_php.php

includes/modules/pages/advanced_search_result/header_php.php

or perhaps...

includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_advanced_search_default.php

includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_advanced_search_result_default.php

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

My store was installed through my host company. I did the installation, and the modules have been installed since then. But I did a lot of editing (only customizing the Look and installing some add-ons).
Here is the website: https://www.iluvlabels.com

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

I am here to apologize again, my website is still not working since my domain has been transfered last night. To whom who are trying to help me here, need to let you know that I am working on it...(I am encounting a big problem along with transfering my store to a new host). I will get back and inform you all as soon as my store is restored.

Have you replaced all of the advanced search and advanced search result files with the stock Zen Cart originals?

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

Okay, at any point was the search working?

These are the elements it's using:
template - on screen display
modules - some of the filtering/searching is being performed
functions - connected to modules helping with the searching/filtering
data - what the above steps are looking at when performing a search

I can see there are no on screen errors when performing a search, are there any errors in your /logs folder?

Was this a one click install?

Was there a previous Zen Cart database where the data came from?

Do you have anything against dumping the current site and starting over manually?

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

I found the search function doesn't work a couple weeks ago. The store has been online for just over a year. I didn't spend much time maintaining the website in that year.

I did a one click install on the previous host, I added all the data manually. The day before, my site was shut down because the domain was transfered. I followed https://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?142-i-want-to-move-my-zen-cart-installation-to-another-host-or-a-different-server instructions to transfer whole store and data to the new host company. This time i installed zencart manually, I restored my database and my site. I checked my logs and there are no error files.

I wonder if Multiple Categories Link Manager add-on is the cause of the problem.

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

Well its current version is 1.39 and you're using 1.51... however it'd an admin only change file change. If it was corrupting the data in the database, without errors, maybe adding some strange character to the data - the search wouldn't be able to find the data it was looking for. Bit of a long shot but you could look at your database -> product and category data to see if it's normal looking?

One more thing to mention, the search function works in admin. Does that give any clue?

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

Yes, the admin mimics and occasionally exactly matches the template default. This is still pointing at one of the search files in your template being faulty without actually seeing the files I'm still guessing.

Re: Why doesn't the Search function work on my store?

Hi,

It works now.:D

I installed (one click install) Zen Cart to subdomain.
I copied all files under /modules/pages/advanced_search and /modules/pages/advanced_search_result from fresh Zen Cart to my current store, and replaced them. And it works!

Thank you all who spent time on the issue.
:clap::cheers:
