Having multiple categories on a single page

Hi,

I'm trying to create a second version of the categories sidebox and it doesn't seem to work. I tried getting the categories_tabs to work and that works no problemo. All is the way I like it minus the fact that there are no sub categories. I am using the categories_css mod, and ideally I would like to swap out the categories_tab module with the categories_css side box, but it doesn't want to fly.

Should I be able to simply reference tpl_categories_css.php from tpl_header.php(simply swap out categories_tab for for tpl_categories_css) ?? If it can be done and I need to make modifications, what would they be? If I can place a second copy somewhere else besides tpl_header cool, or if you know the key to getting just ul.bullet-menu to display on top at z-index: 9999 that would be great too.

Thanks!

Eric

Re: Having multiple categories on a single page

Categories Dressing has an option to use fragfutter's Uncollapsed Categories Tree sidebox, and it is possible to activate both the standard and expanded sideboxes, with rules and settings to make them display the categories and levels you want. The support thread has many discussions of custom solutions.

It is possible to turn the "uncollapsed" version into a flyout with only a few additional CSS rules (described in the support thread), and I have recently developed a version to give a dropdown "megamenu" in the header (not yet published).

Putting a sidebox in the header requires several customized files. It can be done relatively easily by adapting code from the Editable Centerboxes mod from Plugins.

How do you envision using the two categories menus? What kind of distinction do you want between them?

Re: Having multiple categories on a single page

Hi gjh42,

Thanks for the quick reply. I am building a fluid adaptive template, and when I get to the iPhone version, I was simply going to put .bullet-menu from the Categories side box on z-index 9999 and left: 0 and top: 0 and style it relative to the iPhone layout. I spent a half a day and couldn't for some reason get it to render. I could get Categories_tabs to work no problem, but I want the accordion style functionality that I kind of have with the Categories_css mod. It would have been to easy. :)

So since categories_tabs worked on near-the first try, I assumed I should go the route of trying to get a second categories side box going versus trying to further get the bullet-menu to display.

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Having multiple categories on a single page

Unfortunately, I don't have a cell phone and have no experience working with mobile menus/layouts. I hope it works for you, and that those with such experience can offer pointers where necessary.
