help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

Hi All,

I've got a fairly new ZC setup and a Canadian customer just asked me to custom order a ton of yarn. I went to my shop to do a quick calculation to see how much to quote her for shipping. I have the latest USPS module (2014-03-07).

She wants 34 skeins of yarn

The weight setting on the yarn per item is .12

My USPS module has:

1st-Class Package Intl Service weight max: 3.62
Priority Intl weight max: 66
Priority Express Int weight max: 66

I do not have any other international shipping options.

When I put 34 of those skeins of yarn into my cart First Class International still displays! Yikes! This will kill me on shipping as the USPS cut off for First Class International is 4 lbs and these items should weigh in over 4# (4.08) and are .46 over my Max setting.

I have not changed the admin->configuration->shipping/packaging to add any extra weight or percentage.

Is this a known bug?

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

Hi Ajeh,

I downloaded the file from the link in the thread you mentioned. The header comments section of usps.php is identical to the one in my ZC setup:

/**

  • USPS Module for Zen Cart v1.3.x thru v1.6
  • USPS RateV4 Intl RateV2 - March 7, 2014 Version K3
  • Prices from: Jan 26, 2014
  • Rates Names: Mar 7, 2014
  • @package shippingMethod
  • @copyright Copyright 2003-2014 Zen Cart Development Team
  • @copyright Portions Copyright 2003 osCommerce
  • @copyright Portions adapted from 2012 osCbyJetta
  • @license http://www.zen-cart.com/license/2_0.txt GNU Public License V2.0
  • @version $Id: usps.php 2014-03-07 ajeh Version K3 $
    */

Is there another updated module floating around? I could not find any reference in the New & Announcement forum,

Thanks

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

OK after some checking it seems that the rates for Priority International are showing up in First Class International slot, so I won't be slammed on shipping because the customer will just choose this option.

However...

The rates for Priority and Priority Express are completely off.

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

OK one last note.

I uploaded the usps.php module (under another name) and did an sdiff -s on the original usps.php and the new file - they are identical

I have made changes to the usps.php to add in a Media Mail filter by category --but these changes are only in the domestic shipping area.

If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it!

Thanks

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

Could you edit the USPS shipping module settings in your Zen Cart Admin and down at the bottom of the settings turn on the Debug to Logs ...

Then, try your quote ...

Now, look in the /logs directory and Zip the Ship_something.log file and attach it to your post?

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

Could you please set your USPS shipping module to Debug Logs and generate the log file in your /logs directory then Zip that and attach it to your post?

It is 100% more readable and contains a lot more information about the shipping results when trying to determine issues, thanks ...

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

You have in the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... the Maximum Weight set to 3.62 rather than the default 50 lbs ... is there a reason?

This will divide all shipping into small shipping containers for 3.62 lbs is that what you really want?

Have you an URL to your Product that we can perhaps see this on your site?

Also, you said this was a Product for .12lbs and quantity 34 which is 4.08 lbs but you posted a log for Total Weight: 2.04 Pounds: 2 Ounces: 1 ... what are you really trying to test the shipping on?

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

My bad ... I wasn't thinking that through on the weight ...

The reason the weight is getting quotes for:
Total Weight: 2.04 Pounds: 2 Ounces: 1

is because of your setting for: Maximum: 3.62

What happens if you change that to the default 50?

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

Hi Ajeh,

That was it, or seems to be. When I set the Maximum Package Weight to 50 it seems as if the quotes come back correctly.

I can leave this but I was going to add Package Tares after I got the feel of how much to add per order.

It was my understanding that "Larger packages - added packaging percentage:weight" was keyed from the setting in the "Enter the Maximum Package Weight you will ship"

I am happy that the postage is figuring correctly but now am unclear as to how the Package Tare works.

Thank you for figuring this out!

Re: help, shipping International shows First Class when over 4lbs

The Maximum weight is used to divide the Total weight into "boxes" ... then the quotes are built from the Total Weight plus the Tare Rates (when not set to 0:0) ...

Now if the Maximum weight is 50, the Default setting, the Total Weight when it is less than or equal to 50 uses the Tare Weight for the Small/Medium and when at over 50lbs uses the Tare Rate for Large Box ...

If you reduce the Maximum Weight to 3.62, then the Total Weight is divided into boxes of 3.62 or less ... so the quotes are based on a Maximum of 3.62 so an order of 4.08lbs would be obtained with a quote for Total Weight: 2.04 then multipled buy the number of boxes ...

Total Weight: 2.04 Pounds would obtain quotes for First Class, as First Class is up to 4lbs, or in your case 3.62lbs based on your limits ...
