usps shipping module installation problems

I am installing the latest version USPS shipping module into zen cart 151.
After in install the include folder I go to Admin>Modules and I now have
United States Postal Service - Nothing has been selected for Quotes.

Also at the top in yellow is a Shipping Configuration error.
"Warning: USPS shipping module is either missing the username, or it is set to TEST rather than PRODUCTION and will not work."

Clicking the edit button doesn't allow me to do anything.
I have checked with the post office and their server is in production mode.
I have checked with my hosting site and CURL is working.
How do I configure the module.

click USPS
click Edit

What happens?

The line United States Postal Service has in red - "Nothing has been selected for Quotes" in red.
I click USPS and to the far right a green box with information that has buttons for edit and remove.
I click on edit and the green information box goes away and it looks like the like the first screen only with out the
green information section and the screen goes all the way across.

I have a jpeg attached of what the screen looks like after I click on the edit button.

How do I configure the module.

Is there a reason that you have not entered the USPS UserID (UserName) provided to you by the USPS into the proper field? And then selected the USPS classes that you offer as a selection to your customers?

I am never given a opportunity to enter any information.
I install the usps module and when I click on edit to enter my information it goes to the screen I showed in my
post.
If there is somewhere else I need to input it I don't know where that is.

Go to your Tools ... Install SQL Patches ... and run this ...

delete from configuration where configuration_key like 'MODULE\_SHIPPING\_USPS\_%';

Now see if you can go to the Modules ... Shipping ... and install and configure your USPS shipping module ...

Still the same. I am unable to enter any information when I click on edit.

If you look in the directory /logs ... do you see any myDebug-adm-xxxxxxx.log logs created?

All the /logs files for today look like this

Contact your hosting provider and tell them you need to be able to use preg_replace().

If they are not willing to allow the use of preg_replace, you may wish to change to a different hosting provider. The function preg_replace is used by a number of Zen Cart plugins..

I have checked with my hosting company and apparently they have preg_replace disabled and will check for
a work around.
Is there a manual way to make the changes.

If your host is too scared to re-enable preg_replace (and the other preg_ functions) (those are all normally enabled by default) then your host is not capable of running Zen Cart or other advanced website applications. Chances are that they're being frequently hacked and don't know how to secure their servers properly, so they're applying a very inefficient broad brush which cripples normal people like you. Thanks everyone for the help.
I got in touch with my hosting company and they re-enabled the preg_replace function.
That seems to have taken care of the problem.
I installed the usps shipping module and now I can input my user information into it.

Thanks for the update that your hosting provider was finally able to set the settings correctly and that this are now working ... :smile:

To give a update for any one having this problem. I started being unable to edit the USPS module and looked in the log folder for
any errors. I was getting the preg_replace error again.
I contacted my hosting company and here is what they said,
The following line must be in your .htaccess file in order for preg_replace() to be enabled for your hosting account:
suPHP_ConfigPath /home/hidden/public_html
If that line is not in your .htaccess file, then preg_replace() will be disabled for your hosting account.

Sure enough the line was added and instantly I was able to edit.
