Looking to migrate to ZenCart from OSC

I came to that same conclusion mulling it over and over. Unfortunately it is not the case. I reinstalled the clean database whihc has one test product 3 levels deep Thriller -> Dean Koontz -> Odd Thomas Series -> Odd Thomas #1

I then set the download file to a name which is not in the downloads folder. Quite rightly there is a red circle against this name in attributes because the file does not exist. However when I go to the Attributes Controller I can see the drop-down for the three levels but there is no *Product is Disabled message!

This message only happens after I imort all the current data from OSC - I checked the database in PHP Admin and every product has 1 set in the Product_Status field. Very odd!

DOH!!!!! Sorted it. When I took a copy of the live site there are 3 books currently with an Inactive Status as they are being worked!!!!!

And just happened to be one of those that you were looking at. Hate it when that happens. :) whew, good. Hope you didn't have to redo too much or at least made a backup of the database. Btw, don't remember seeing it or discussed, hope you have dr byte's sql backup installed. Makes that sort of thing easy to do (backup and restore).

Actually no I wasn't looking at it .... if ANY product is disabled when you go to the Attributes Controller it just says *Product Disabled regardless!!!!!!! I will change the wording to *There are disabled products in the database so as to not confuse other Admins!!!!!!!

And No I don't have Dr Bytes - where can I get that please :)

Ideally all you will have to do for your live site is know how to update/refresh your database. The way the update your website or move your website instructions somewhat read is that with your functional files, they go to your new location then the database is "imported" and updated. So the problems you've had with getting files to work, assuming that was the problem should not be an issue, relatively speaking.

The main problem is this way that you have to set admin settings for free products which differs greatly from OSC. I have managed it twice so far on single testbed items but not really sure how I actually achieved it LOL.. OSC free items is and addon and then attributes are easy after that. ZC seems to make it a bit more complicated but I'm sure it will suddenly fall into place :)

As you will have worked out my site is based on e-book downloads - now I see in ZenCart there is a BookX extras addon (which I tried on the Testbed - and was the reason it crashed :/ ) Unfortunately it is still in Beta and certainly doesn't work with v1.51 which is a shame as it adds extra fields/databases for author, series etc.......

To keep the books in a series listed together we are currently having to add the title as [Series Name #1] Book Title

Preferably it would be better to use the Model field for the series name and then have a Model (Series) sidebox that you can drop down to select a compete series (in the same way that you can for Manufacturers (Authors).

Does anyone know of any addons out there that can cope with this or know of a way it can be implemented please?

Thanks .... yes I can see the sense in a unique model no. I'll have a hunt around for other changes. Just a shame the BookX feature isn't working. In essence I guess the simplest method would be to add a field to the database for Series and try to get it to operate in a similar fashion to Manufacturer. How difficult can it be LOL!!!!!!!!

I tested the bookx some time ago on a 1.5.1 system and that worked. I do not remember if I had to make changes though. Maybe you colud better ask it in the bookx forum

Thanks Design75 ..... It seemed as though there were PHP files missing when it tried to list a book etc. Maybe I did the install incorrectly.

Did you already know that is something goes wrong, most of the times a debug file is generated in the logs folder of your zc installation? Those are really helpful in finding what is going wrong

I had a quick look at the forums and note that there were some issues with the install. If I recall I did get SQL errors on the install. I will install a fresh second testbed and add the Bookx to that to see what happens. If it goes wrong then I can follow the conversation on the forums before I try to install on any of the other sites.

One question .... the Manufacturers sidebox shows Please select plus two authors. I would like to expand the depth of this box to show maybe 10 at a time. I have found all the english files to change the wording and various template files but I cannot seem to locate where the box depth is specified.

Does anyone know off the top of their head where this is located please?

Hi All

Been off on other stuff for a while and now getting back into carrying on with the site design.

I have set the All new products listing to display the first 300 characters of the product description which is working fine. What I would like to do is to repeat this in the section that shows NEW PRODUCTS FOR MONTH and NEW PRODUCTS FOR MONTH - CATEGORY..

At present they just show the Image, Title and the price.

I cannot find anyway of setting this through the Admin configuration .... have I missed something ... or is there a patch I need to apply to make this happen?

Doing some catching up on this thread. Having found the location of the depth "factor", perhaps it would help others if it was posted here as well.
