Exporting Catalog from v1.3.7 to 1.5.1?

wondering what route would you go if you want to export the products of a version 1.3.7.1 zencart to an existing fresh 1.5.1 version?

That's the opposite direction to what the tools are designed to handle.

The zc_install script will bring your entire database forward from old version to new.

There are no tools to selectively pull only a handful of records from the old version into the new. That's largely because doing so would create conflicts between record ids.

Best approach: upgrade a copy of the old database and then re-apply your customization settings in your Admin afterward, and any plugins.

After upgrade (either in place or through an alternate test site), if there are specific products to copy over without replacing the current 151 database, a tool similar to easy Populate or Apsona could be used to export the upgraded database into a storage file. The file could then be modified to only import select products. This will not technically be like an upgrade of the store because only data specific to support the future purchase of the product would be transferred not information related to it's past. It would however, make products available in the new store that were available in the old store without fully wiping/rebuilding the new store.

It would be far more helpful though to explain the reason for doing what you have described/asked about. Dr. Byte's advise as is so often the case spot on and a complete solution for making an older store current. I chose to answer the question asked thinking there may be a good reason (sometimmes there is, sometimes there is not.) The guess work is removed completely if the post(s) provide more of the suggested posting guidelines or if one thinks from the perspective of another trying to help from reading just the text that is provided.

I would like to add, and it basically desrves it's own reponse rather than piggy backing onmy previous. Any time one discusses differences in versions of things, follow the upgrade guidelines. One of which is not to do things like move a store and upgrade at the same time. This is similar to what is being asked about. How to get something from one store to anotherand how to make sure that it is the same version as applicable. Well, looks like need to do an upgrade and a move. Which in a way is where Dr. Byte suggested to go. Once the two databases are at the same version, now the question is how do I copy products from one database to another. But, there are still questions to be answered, like why for what purpose, etc?

Now, had the writeup begunwith a clear descriptionof knowing that part and wanting to find a shortcut or method to validate that a shortcut could be used, the write-up could have/should have been different.

Anyways, that just my getting out there and trying to teach a little how to work through ZC and other programs.

Fair, but what I didn't state specifically in my prior post is that the problem with that approach is that if the new store has had any products added manually then there will be a mismatch on product IDs, and then the "import" wouldn't be clean, and all the previously-indexed links to those products would be invalid as well.
It's far worse if there have been orders placed, new customers, etc. That's why I always recommend the temporary database copy is ONLY for testing, and the live site is directly upgraded (only AFTER testing separately of course) so no data is ever lost. http://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3-How-do-I-rebuild-my-site-on-the-new-version-instead-of-upgrading

The new v1.5.1 installation already had items (the default ones that come with the installation). I removed them manually.
I am realizing the complications of importing an old catalog into a new one so I decided to go manually. I opted for a fresh install since there were too many customizations applied to the old ver 1.3.7.
So, as always starting with a clean new slate is better than upgrading an old install with who knows what complications.
Yes, things are slower, but it might pay out in the long run.
