Graphics Clarity & Detail in a purchased Template
hiimpactjewelry.com
SHORT QUESTION
How do I improve the quality of the logo portion of the graphic on this page. I have created a Corel .cdr (V. X5) vector image and I export it in as high a quality as I can to the required .jpg and I am forced to remove anti-aliasing to remove the white edge around the graphic.
I am using a purchased template called theme222. I do not know where it was purchased. I am helping a friend with his graphics and so I have limited information at this time.
THE LONG EXPLAINATION
Ok here we go...
In stock form this template looks almost identical except that it comes with a A&B Jewelery graphic dropped into where the current HI-Impact Jewelery graphic currently resides.
Initially I just created the logo.jpg and uploaded that to the page but found that getting the gradient in my graphic to match the surrounding gradient was nearly impossible. So after much research I discovered that there are 4 primary graphic components of the 'header' of this template. There is logo.jpg which is a 225px X 126px graphic, header_bg1.gif just to the right of it that is 735px X 136px and then to the far right and far left to fill in the remaining space are top_talling.gif and top_talling2.gif which are both 3px X 136px and are virtually identical.
I Corel X5 I recreated these work areas and produced 4 cohesive graphics to replace the original graphics and I then uploaded them. Immediately I found that there was a small white border around each of the graphics, I researched and learned that this was caused by anti-aliasing. I will not explain anti-aliasing because if you don't know what it is you can do that research yourself. What's important is that I learned that by turning off AA I removed the white border. I did this and reuploaded the graphics and VOILA! you have what you see with the exception that the three .gifs lined up perfectly but the .jpg had to monkeyed with to get the black to red border to line up properly. I also learned that by removing AA the quality of the graphic went down considerably when exported and uploaded.
A couple of pieces of perhaps pertinent information.
- I am creating the graphics the actual size they are exported at. So I am not working at 4X and then reducing the size when it is exported.
- I do have some issues with exporting really high rez stuff. I don't know why, but I am going to address Corel about this and see if this is the issue.
- If I export the .jpg graphic in .gif the quality is much higher... BUT... the template does not recognize logo.gif as the file to go where logo.jpg is referenced.
- I am not sure of the version of ZC but it is a one click install on Dreamhost so I assume its the latest version. (Where do I get that info?)
#3 leads me this question... What files within ZC would reference logo.jpg? Can I edit those files to look for logo.gif? Is that a possible solution?
OK... so that about all I think of to say. If you have anything useful to ad I would greatly appreciate it. Please recognize that I have done a lot of research before dropping this bomb in your collective laps, and alas I have come to a point where my mind is just not able to concoct any solutions to this problem.
Thanks in advance
