Blank front page after restore (due to issue with upgrade)

Hi,

Have spent countless hours searching for a solution to this problem. Apologies in advance if I'm posting this in the wrong place (mods: please relocate if need be)

This is what I have done so far in attempting to upgrade from 1.3.9h to 1.5.1

Backed everything up, all site fites via ftp, and db via myphpadmin

I did something wrong so want to roll back to the 1.3.9h that we had working last week.

Database has been successfully restored by my hosting company.

Deleted all site files from webhosting server using FileZilla.

Re-uploaded all of my site files from my unedited backup. and now where we should be seeing the front page for the shop I am just seeing a white blank page.

Guessing it's something to do with a config issue? But I am at a loss.... Hoping DrByte will have some info on this...

Do you have a redirect in effect? That might be causing your problem. Whether using the /catalog or not, we're taken to /catalog. If your includes/configure.php is not correctly set, this may be your problem.

Best thing to do now while you are having this problem is to maybe kill the redirect and move everything to the root.

I just checked the log files in my cache folder which stated this:

I have since fixed the issue with "unexpected characters" and now the only thing remaining in my error log file is the following:

[06-Jul-2014 11:23:29] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home4/leapfrog/public_html/catalog/includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/fanbox_sidebox_defines.php on line 13

If I delete the fanbox_sidebox_defines.php altogether, it breaks the front page headings on categories and products.. not sure why this is happening.. I'm going nuts here :(

ok a step in the right direction.. I downloaded and reinstalled the fanbox_sidebox mod from http://www.kerrinhardy.com/2010/05/16/add-a-facebook-page-fan-box-to-your-zen-cart-store/

Now the new issue is that my sidebox headings are not displaying and also notice the heading on the tab seems to say ZenCart Installation.. any idea where the code resides that controls these bits?

I've fixed my latest issue of sidebox heading not displaying by reinstalling from my site backup the following file
/catalog/includes/languages/english.php

Hopefully this is the end of the issues and I can focus on my upgrade to 1.5.1

You ARE doing a "test upgrade" in a separate folder and database, before touching your live site ... right?

yes.. but I stupidly attempted to use the live database for the test site and it bungled up a whole bunch of things.. so back tracking and starting again.. just realised when I go to myphpadmin it says Version information: 4.1.8, latest stable version: 4.2.5 so I may not even be able to upgrade to 1.5.1 yet anyway... still trying to figure out if thats right or not

Zen Cart doesn't care what version of phpMyAdmin you use. That's just a tool to manipulate the database. What matters is your MySQL version ... which is probably fine ... but do check it to be sure.
