How hard is it to put zen on top off Google or do you have to add plugins?

Plugins won't help if you don't have good content, well written descriptions (preferably custom, not copied from a distributor), etc. It also depends on your market niche and what the competition is like (you are not likely to get top ranking for something Amazon also sells).
There are plenty of nearly stock Zen Carts with good content which are at or near the top of their respective categories. Others have examples they can give you.
Once you have maximized your content, you can look at tweaks for search engines, but really, Google wants to give the best rankings to sites that people will like best.
