What type of license is applicable towards my module?

I recently wrote and submitted a module to the database and I'm worried about the license that I chose.

I know that all modules that are based off of code from ZenCart must be licensed at GPLv2. I wrote my code so that it can be run separately from ZenCart. The only thing that my coding does is load the configure.php file for database information and proceeds to read that database. The rest of the coding is of my own creation.

My question is, does my code have to be licensed at GPLv2 or can I license it as GPLv3? I know that I cannot (or rather should not) license my code with Creative Commons licenses since CC doesn't "properly" handle coding.

I'm unable to open a zip file at the moment to review your code, does it use $db or other zen cart functions to access the data or is all database access done through your own code?

Re: What type of license is applicable towards my module?

It does use a variable named $db but it is NOT the one created by ZenCart. The script only refers to the connection information and static variables inside the configuration file for ZenCart (/includes/configure.php) while the database calls are handled by "traditional" PHP handles such as mysql_connect and mysqli_connect as well as other PHP related functions like mysqli_fetch_row.

You can also see the entire code here on the gitHub.

Re: What type of license is applicable towards my module?

It should also be noted that I see this in the ZenCart Plugin database guidelines:

License: Must be GPL, since it's integrating into Zen Cart® core code, which is GPL. A complete copy of the license should be included in the contribution files, preferably as a separate file. If an addon is free-standing (ie: doesn't use any existing Zen Cart® files in order to operate) then it can be licensed under another license provided that license is fully compatible with GPL.

The guidelines doesn't state that GPLv2 must be used but I'm also not seeing the "clause" that a later/newer version can be used like I do in other GPL based coding. I mean is GPLv3 is compatible with GPLv2?

The statement says to ensure that it is compatible with GPL, not that it must be compatible with GPLv2, so if GPLv3 is compatible with GPL, then it seems that you're covered there. Only thing that has me is whether the configure.php file is considered part of the "doesn't use any existing Zen Cart® files in order to operate" aspect. Though the initial download package does not actually include that file, it does get created by the code... (If an automatic install is done instead of one copying the contents from say the FAQ.)
