Images in admin dont show 403 Error

Ok so I upgraded to1.5.3 (What a mess, had to completely do a new install)

So after I upgraded the images in admin do not show.
I checked the server, the directory exists and the images are there.

I am open to any help.
I tried and removed the .htaccess file to see if this was the problem, but without success. (I re-installed the .htaccess file)

Help Please!

What files type of files are "allowed" in your .htaccess from the public_html -> the folder the images are in? check your page source, does the URL match, can you load the images in your browser from that URL?
