Telephone number gives error when minimum value is any number above zero

I am not sure when it started happening, but when I make the telephone number mandatory (for account creation) by setting the minimum value above zero, I get the following error message

In the screenshot it says a minimum of 6 is needed, but I had actually input 10. If I turn the minimum value to zero, then even if I enter a 10 digit telephone number, it doesn't get passed through to the customer details. I have had two customers bring it to my attention, but have unsuccessfully been able to find a solution. I have been using Zen Cart for several years now and have never had this happen. I did upgrade to v153 in March but everything was working smoothly then.

Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to fix this? Or what the problem could be? Thank you.

Typical answers to the posting guidelines would help. Ie. How was the upgrade performed (complete rebuild, upgrade in place, etc...)
Where did the upgrade softwaare come from? (This site, a one click install, etc...)
From what version?
Other questions related to the situation... (Plugins, etc...)

If I remember correctly, I did do the one click upgrade to v153 from v151 on Godaddy. Prior to that, I had always downloaded it from here. I completed that in March and didn't have one customer mention it and we also received phone numbers for a while after that upgrade. I think the problem first started sometime in August. I don't recall using a plugin that would affect any of the files associated with creating an account. Most of the plugins I had with previous versions are not available for v153.

Be sure that each time you change the Minimum Quantity that you refresh the screen before testing the new message ...

Just tried that and it is still giving me the same error message as before. Is it more likely that the problem is in one of the create account codes? Or a database issue?

Check your two configure.php files:
/includes/configure.php
/your_secret_admin/includes/configure.php

that they are using the same database information ...

When the telephone number is set to zero, the customer creation process works (via the straight up create account interface built into ZC), It is only when I try making it mandatory that the issue arises. After I was first notified by the first customer ( I was busy at the time) the quick fix was to change it to zero. Then we noticed that no one was leaving phone numbers and we have to contact customers from time to time to get answers to questions.

Yes they do.  I copied and pasted all of them in word pad vertically to compare with your code and they are all the same.

Yes they are the same. Maybe I should replace the code in all the "create account" files with v153 downloaded from ZC in case something got changed along the way?

I am not sure exactly how many files that would be or where they all would be. Which files should I overwrite? I appreciate the time you spent on this.

The thing that really seems odd to me about this is that if there is an error message due to not entering the correct data in a "required field", then the error message should be in a popup like all the other error messages for that interface. But for some reason, the error shows up in red on actual page and not in a pop up.

As a test, what happens if you switch to the Classic Template on your site?

I get a captcha error message...but there is no captcha that shows up on that page to enter anything in classic
