What state do you do business in? To whom are you required to submit the tax money collected?

Re: tax zone setup to world zone

Arizona changes effective January 1, 2015. 42-5061 A.14 "sales to a nonresident of tangible personal property, other than a motor vehicle, shipped or delivered to a location outside Arizona for use outside the state are subject to tax at the seller's business location.... 42-5061. A.35 .....Therefore beginning Jan1, 2015 sales of tangible personal property shipped delivered directly to a destination outside the United States for use in that foreign country are subject to tax..."

We need to charge the same % but everyone, disregard their residential location.

Do you sell only physical goods? Or do you sell virtual products as well, such as non-free downloadable items?

If your products are all physical, simply set your store's tax-basis to "Store", and it'll charge your state tax on all items, regardless of customer location.

Re: tax zone setup to world zone

  1. Ensure your store's address is correct, in 2 places:
    a) Admin->Configuration->My Store> ... set "Country" and "Zone" to US, Arizona
    b) Admin->Configuration->Shipping/Packaging ... set Country and Zip to US and your store's zip code.

  2. Make sure you have a tax rate configured for Arizona, under Admin->Locations/Taxes->Tax Rates

  3. Then configure your store to charge tax based on "Store" address:
    a) Admin->Configuration->My Store->Basis of Product Tax ... set to "Store"
    b) Admin->Configuration->My Store->Basis of Shipping Tax ... set to "Store"

Re: tax zone setup to world zone

I did a little bit different....
this as you said: a) Admin->Configuration->My Store> ... set "Country" and "Zone" to US, Arizona
b) Admin->Configuration->Shipping/Packaging ... set Country and Zip to US and your store's zip code.

  1. Make sure you have a tax rate configured for Arizona, under Admin->Locations/Taxes->Tax Rates

but then i did In Zone definitions in details of Arizona Zone changed to All Countries and Zone - to All Zones
then set the Base of Product tax from "Billing" to "Store".

tried to order as if i am from other places/countries.... works...

Ya, that'd work too

Re: tax zone setup to world zone

Ok by changing Store to Billing everything working smooth now. However i got one more question regarding this major change in taxing all our customers. Before, because we were taxing Arizona only it was not difficult at the end after the import of all orders into quickbooks to separate how much was going to the state and how much to the city. Now, because we tax every customer i was wondering if we can setup 2 taxes to show up in 2 rows in invoice and to import into qb separately indicating what goes to city, and what to state. The same question i would have regarding to qbi, if would it be able to export tax into two different buckets in quickbooks. thanks.

Re: tax zone setup to world zone

Marta van Eck:

The same problem but with downloadable products. According new rules virtual products will have to include VAT. ( taxes). Is there is a way to configure this n zencart?

There has been a lot of discussion about that in the last several months:
http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?213763-Digital-Seller-New-2015-EU-Digital-VAT-Affects-You&p=1265814#post1265814
And one interim workaround has been proposed here:
http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?215524-Restrict-Digital-Downloads-Support-Thread

Further discussion about that topic should be done at either of those thread links.
