irishshopper:
This has now been fixed. I was not aware you could "turn off" the main page being used from the Configuration settings.
We have quite a number of sites all using this banner for a few days over the Xmas / New Year break all hosted on the same server so rather than upload the image for each URL just have uploaded it once and bring it in from there for each site. As I say it will only be used for around a week.
Thank you for all your help.
Agree, glad fixed.
Couple of reasons I asked about the origin of the image(s) was that first, if the site being referenced wasn't in your control (and even if it is), then changes made to that image in the original store will be positively (or negatively) passed on to the other stores. This would be more of a negative thing if not in your own control as would be at the whim of whomever owned the site.
The other thing is that the uri provided in the src call could lead to security notifications to the user if the site being visited has SSL enabled and depending on when/where the image is displayed. Basically if the webpage were being displayed using https, then the browser could report that there was mixed content as the image would be displayed using http.
Another thing of thought is that these multiple stores are now relying on this one store to function properly (properly enough) to display the image instead of each being relatively self contained. (Okay, so if they are all on the same host, that means when the host has a problem the sites are highly like to have one, but it seems like each site will have to be individually modified after the fact anyways.)
Just some thoughts perhaps to those reading in the future, but glad it's working/been resolved.
