Maybe this is beyond my abilities, but

I would like to move the categories and info side box to the top of the screen, and show 3 or 4 products per row, instead of one product per row.

Is there any easy way to do this?

This is what I have now.

What's with the blue on either side? How do I get rid of that and use the whole screen?
Ideally I'd like to show Categories (models) across the top and store info at the bottom of every page.
And have however many items going across as possible (more for larger screens, fewer for smaller screens.)
Maybe only title and price showing.
I want my customers to be able to quickly view as many items as possible in the shortest amount of time.

Admin - Configuration - Layout Settings - Categories-Tabs Menu ON/OFF to turn on the category listing in the header.

Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller to turn oiff the Categories sidebox.

The width of your store is set in stylesheet.css in the #mainWrapper rule. You can set the width to either number of pixels (yours is the default 750px now) or percentage, up to 100%.

Before you make any more changes, create your custom override template:

Also, if you're really using version 1.5.1, it would be smart to upgrade to the current (1.5.3) version before going any further.

Source of confusion,,, Says my version is 1.5.1 but the d/l file I downloaded says 1.53 (but no hot fix)

I'll disagree that the space is 'wasted'. Pages that span 100% which don't have a lot of content look wrong to me. I usually set my mainWrapper width to 980px.
