Admin page unaccessable after install

I have been trying to update a site from 1.50 for hours now. I have installed and reinstalled numerous times using different folders and subdomains and domains and no matter what I do, after the installations, I cannot access the admin page to even think about log in. This is on a fresh install with no custom bits or adds to the data base. What am I doing wrong? It cannot be this difficult to do the install alone before the actual data part.

What do you mean by 'unaccessable? Exactly how are you updating the site?

when I go the the page it is just blank, white page. at this point I had given up on the data base update portion and was just trying for clean install and getting same results. new blank db, empty folder, install, the 'store' page loads with banner showing it is offline, click on the admin page option or go to url directly and it is white page. If I install 1.5.3 everything works fine, but if i am going thru all the update stuff I need th security updates from 5.4

php version? Also do any of the issues listed: http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?215694-Known-Bugs-%28and-fixes%29-with-v1-5-4 apply? (recommend subscribing to that thread also for any future updates on that version of ZC)

Thank you so, so, much, I did not see that thread before. I had 5.2.17 php. updated to current version and poof I can see.

Yippee!! Be sure in the future to keep an eye out on system requirements before installing. So thankful that Dr. Byte (and team) identified what it takes to support upgrading from that level of PHP. I mean,didn't directly affect me, but that little nugget of information has helped a number of people already.
