Have Filled My Website Disk Space - 10gb?

Hi Guys,

cPanel tells me I've completely filled my 10gb allocation of disk space, which seems a bit excessive given the size of my website currently. I've checked and have around 45mb of mail and have already removed all the big individual product pictures in the images folder.

How can I work out what's taking up all the space?

Regards,

Mitch.

P.S. Probably unrelated, but it also takes around 23 seconds for me to load any page in admin. The front end of the website loads fine, just the back end is slow?

Re: Have Filled My Website Disk Space - 10gb?

Having hundreds or thousands of files in the /cache/ folder will indeed slow down your site.

v1.3.9 puts debug logs and other things in the /cache/ folder. That was moved to the /logs/ folder in modern versions of Zen Cart.
Upgrading would help prevent that problem.

You may also have Email-Archiving enabled in Admin->Configuration->Email Options, and if so then your database will be using space to store all the emails your store has ever sent out. You can turn that off, and then use the Email Archive Manager plugin to purge them from the database.

Re: Have Filled My Website Disk Space - 10gb?

Have tried to access the cache folder and so far it's just spent 10 minutes showing 'Fetching directory contents...'

I'd say this means I'm on to something, but concerned if I can't get access to the directory I can't fix it. As a workaround can the whole directory be deleted then a new cache directory be created or is this likely to cause damage?

I'll also check the email archiving setting. Thanks!

Re: Have Filled My Website Disk Space - 10gb?

Email archiving was not on, so that's one potential cause eliminated.

I'm still waiting for the cache directory to finish loading so that I can see what's in there. That's over 20 minutes so far so it must be huge.

Re: Have Filled My Website Disk Space - 10gb?

Right - couldn't get access to the cache directory at all - it just kept timing out.

So - I renamed it and created a new directory to see if anything would stop working on the website. Not only is everything still working, it's fixed the problem with pages on the back end taking forever to load! (So very happy about this.)

This full cache issue should be added to the FAQ about slow load times so that anyone else experiencing slow load times knows to check it? I worked through the entire FAQ trying to fix the slow load times only to have to give up and decide to try again by updating to the latest version 'after Christmas'.

Thanks for the help - now trying to delete the renamed cache directory to get my space back, but that looks like it might be the next issue as it's not doing it quickly.

Right - couldn't get access to the cache directory at all - it just kept timing out. That's normal. Use your hosting company's control panel instead.

Joe Dodgy:

So - I renamed it and created a new directoryBe sure to put back the original files that belong there (copy them from original Zen Cart zip), else hackers will try to see what files are in that folder, and potentially see information they ought not to.

It is in at least one FAQ. I remember putting it there. Which FAQ were you referring to?
