Cannot access Admin on a new install

I am going to build a new store with Zencart 1.5.4 I went through the installation process without any problems. (I think)
I can access the store but not the Admin. I think maybe the URL I am typing may be wrong but everything I try does not work.

I keep getting the 404 error. Page Not Found

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Please answers to all of the questions asked in the "Posting Tips". The "Posting Tips" can be found by scrolling up when posting a response. The more verbose you can be with your answers, the better chance a community member will be able to help.

In addition to all of the questions in the"Posting Tips", please provide a copy of the "/includes/configure.php" file created by Zen Cart during the installation. Remove the lines with DB_SERVER_USERNAME and DB_SERVER_PASSWORD. Please use code tags when supplying the contents of "/includes/configure.php" (this makes the file easier for everyone to read). Code tags can be created by pressing the "#" button when posting (EX: ```

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

One of the big questions from the "Posting Tips" is: "HOW did you install Zen Cart? (upload via FTP and run zc_install, a one-click install from your hosting company, etc)?".

Can you verify the folder you renamed "/admin" to after install exists (via FTP)? Also keep in mind the name should not include any spaces and on most servers the name is case sensitive (capitalization matters). Usually a 404 indicates the folder (or file) does not exist on the server.

If you are not on a phone you can scroll up in your web browser when replying to a post (or creating a new post) to see the "Posting Tips". If on a phone, I would recommend accessing the forum on something with a larger screen (one can click "Full Site" at the bottom of the page from a phone, but navigation gets interesting). The "Posting Tips" look something like:

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

I am on a computer.
I currently have a store using zencart 139h that I want to keep running until I completely build a new store with zencart 1.5.4
I downloaded the new version to my computer then uploaded it using a FTP program then ran the install. I am able to open the new versions catalog/store but I am not able to open the Admin panel. I did not rename admin. I have done a search on this forum on that but came up empty.
I have placed this fresh install in a folder and not to the root directory because it will be weeks till I am ready to go live.

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

Maynards:

... I did not rename admin. ...
This is a step required when installing Zen Cart 1.5+ If you skipped this it may be part of the problem. I'd also advise against just overwriting a copy of the 1.3.x site (does not sound like you did this - which is good).

Please review "How Do I Install Zen Cart" and "How do I rebuild my site on the new version". Both are excellent reference documents (along with the documentation included with the downloaded copy of Zen Cart - if you downloaded from this website).

Keep in mind Zen Cart 1.5.4 will not run out-of-box under PHP < 5.3.7 and Zen Cart 1.3.x will not run out-of-box under PHP > 5.3. Reference "Zen Cart Server Requirements" for more details.

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

I did read the "How Do I Install Zen Cart" and I did forget to rename the admin folder...
In the config. file is this the line item where the admin folder name needs to be changed?

define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_ADMIN', preg_replace('#^' . str_replace('-', '-',

The directions are very unclear on changing the name in the config. file.

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

You don't need to edit the configure.php file any more. Just change the name of the admin folder.

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

I did rename the admin folder at the Filemanager page of my web hosting company.
I then typed the URL maynardstackle.com/my_admin_name. I still come up with the same error page 404

Example with Zen Cart 1.5.4 installed in the folder "/154zen/catalog/" (DIR_WS_CATALOG) on the server "http://www.example.com" (HTTP_SERVER).

After installation, the admin folder "/154zen/catalog/admin" was renamed to "/154zen/catalog/my_admin_name". Now the admin would be accessible via "http://www.example.com/154zen/catalog/my_admin_name" in a web browser.

If you have moved the admin folder outside "/154zen/catalog/" (DIR_WS_CATALOG) in addition to renaming the admin folder, please try moving it back inside "/154zen/catalog/" (DIR_WS_CATALOG).

The typical path would be something like this below, although it is possible to put the admin directory outside of this structure.

maynardstackle.com/154zen/catalog/my_admin_name

With the site accessible at:

maynardstackle.com/154zen/catalog/

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

The site is accessible by using URL
maynardstackle.com/154zen/catalog/

I cannot access the admin panel by using URL
maynardstackle.com/154zen/catalog/my_admin_name

You think I should just delete this from the server and try again?

I wouldn't say that need to go that far back...

Are you able to use the address to the admin and include /index.php on the end of it?

maynardstackle.com/154zen/catalog/my_admin_name/index.php (knowing that my_admin_name is a representation of the true folder name.)

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

I tried;
maynardstackle.com/154zen/catalog/my_admin_name/index.php (using my new admin folder name)
I still get the 404 error page.

Do you have an .htaccess file in any of the following directories (back to ftp again):
maynardstackle.com
maynardstackle.com/154zen
Or
maynardstackle.com/154zen/catalog

Also do you have any myDebug_xxx files in the 154zen/logs directory of your new install?

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

There is certainly something going on on the store front side...
I used the above url to go to the new test site. Arrived there fine. Tested clicking on the home button in the top left corner, redirected to the above address with www prefix. Then chose the login option, was presented with an ajax error of some type. Was able to get to the login page though.

Nothing else has been installed with this current set of files? The zC files were retrieved from this website?

Have you applied the potential patches that I think lhungil referenced? http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?215694-Known-Bugs-%28and-fixes%29-with-v1-5-4

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

A 404 error means "not found".
So either it's misspelled, or a more complex issue is at hand where your server is translating whatever foldername you used as something forbidden and it's getting the 404 when trying to send you to the "forbidden" message.

Try renaming the admin folder again. Use "fred" for now, to keep it simple and unlikely to trigger any filters. You can rename it again later to something else.

I've seen people "think" they spelled a certain thing when they renamed it, but then realized that they'd actually written something else, especially if they were using letters-and-numbers or something like that.

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

I decided delete the install from my server and re install it.

Everything work fine now. I just wished I knew what I did wrong the first time.

Re: Cannot access Admin on a new install

Thank you for reporting back everything worked after redoing the installation. Possibly some file did not upload correctly or something was just a little off. Just glad you can move forward now!
