Simple "Free US Shipping and Flat Rate International"

I have read so many threads that it is more confusing than ever.

I need to offer free shipping in the US and a flat rate international shipping on items over $50.

We do not ship items under $50 internationally...

What is the easiest way to do this?

When you say Flat Rate International of orders of $50.00 or more, does this mean regardless of whether the Order is $50.00 or $500.00 it is the same amount for shipping?

Yes, we ship leather jackets and will not ship any items less than $50 in value. If the international customer orders 3 jackets, we will take care of any additional shipping so they will only pay $50 for one jacket or ten jackets.

Clone the shipping module:
/includes/modules/shipping/freeoptions.php
/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/freeoptions.php

to new files such as:
/includes/modules/shipping/freeoptions2.php
/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/freeoptions2.php

and on the new files, do case sensative global replaces for:
freeoptions to be freeoptions2
FREEOPTIONS to be FREEOPTIONS2

Make a Zone Definition for the US and install on the Free Shipping Options freeoptions and set the Total >= 0.00 and the amount for the shipping cost to 0.00 ...

Make a Zone Definition for the Rest of the World (except the US) and set it on the clone for Free Shipping Options freeoptions2 and set the Total >= 50.00 and the amount for Shipping Cost to what you want to charge ...

I don't know what happened, but all I have for shipping options now is Flat Rate and Free Shipping Options. Other options like USPS, zone rates, stores pickup, per unit, per item, etc are all gone. The only files I changed are the ones I just cloned. Even with the two options I have left, they cannot be edited as the section on the right side for editing is completely missing. What did I do?!?

That means you most likely have a typo or error with one or more of your shipping files ...

Check your debug logs in /logs for issues ...

Also look that you do not have duplicate files or copies of files in the directory:
/includes/modules/shipping

as the directory is auto loading and will try to load all files that it finds ...

Also ensure that the files in:
/includes/modules/shipping

are code files and that the files in:
/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping

are language files with the defines in them ...

I also led you a tad astray on the changes as I was trying to avoid problems but you will get more ... :blink:

Replace, case sensative:
freeoptions to freeoptions2
FREEOPTIONS to FREEOPTIONS2

and skip the underscores on them ... see if that works better for you ...

Haha, that did it. With only those two file changes, everything is back and I now have freeoptions2 as a module. Thanks! I will set up the configuration tomorrow.

...until I got my hands on it again. LOL.

I defined two zones using the Install SQL Patches in the link provided. I named them United States & International. I believe I have set everything as you indicated. Neither of them show as 'green' and do not show on the site when a product is chosen. Instead I get the "Sorry, we are not shipping to your region at this time" message in red...

I feel like I am almost there though...?

Look at the Zone Definitions in the DETAILS ... what do you have set in these?

Be aware, that with a US Zone on the Free Shipping Options freeoptions and then the Rest of the World on the Zone for the Free Shipping Options freeoptions2 with the Total set to >= 50.00 you will not see a shipping method for the Rest of the World, unless the total is >= 50.00 ...

When making the Zones, which ones did you use from the FAQs for the Zones for each one?

For Zone definitions, I used the link you gave and chose:

"To create a Zone for the US 50 States & DC"
"To create a Zone Definition for the Rest of the World, excluding the United States."

I chose a trial order of $399 so it would show up.

So far, mine is working ...

If I try to ship to Canada with only $25.00 in the cart I see on the checkout_shipping:

Not Available At This Time

Sorry, we are not shipping to your region at this time.

Please contact us for alternate arrangements.

But if $50.00 or more I have:

Free Shipping Options2 $50.00
Free Shipping2

I think that I have poltergeists at work here. I also believe it is working now, but I did not do anything different. I find it confusing that it offers "Free Shipping Options2" and *free *shipping costs $50.00, but it is working : )

This actually answered another question. When I first rebuilt the site recently I had an error about the flatone module not found or something. I added the flatone.php modules from my old installation and the error message was gone. Then I realize that I must have cloned the flat rate module years ago for this exact reason - to give me two shipping options for US and international.

That seems easier for some reason although it is less customizable than the way you did it. But you are a genius and I thank you very much for all of your help!

Keep in mind that the language files for the shipping allow you to change the language for whatever it is you want them to be as to how they read ...

You might change the define from:
Free Shipping Options2

to something like:
Fred Was Here

or perhaps something more useful ... :lookaroun

I think "Fred Was Here" will do the trick. :) It is more appropriate than you think, because on my site, our store mannequin is referred to as Fred and we joke about it. But I went with "Flat Rate" instead. Thank you again, you are the best!

I forgot that we have a patch set for $21 on the site. I will offer this free to US, but need to charge $5 for international shipping. How do I do this correctly?

So it will be free shipping the the US for everything;
International shipping is $30 for items over $50, otherwise $5 shipping applies...
