Multiple images for product

Hello :)

i'm sorry to post a question that have been asked a thousand times, but i used the search and did read a lot here in the forum and the faq but i haven't found one single explanation where to put more images in. And i don't mean a folder, i mean the page itself:
Attachment 15025
On this page i can't find any possibility, or do i oversee something?

Somewhere i'd read, that image handler is by default in the newest version, but i don't find it.
Additional images in a row stands on 3
I'm using zen 1.5.4

https://www.miki-and-company.com

Just right now i'm feeling pretty stupid, that i can't see where to put multiple pictures in

Thanks for any help in advance
Freya

Re: Multiple images for product

If you mean additional images (in addition to the product image), that's done using the proper image naming convention.

Re: Multiple images for product

Thanks for your answer Stevesh :)
I don't know how many times i've read that page you've linked to, but still, i just don't get it :(

Now you do not need to use subdirectories for loading your images.

All images can be loaded to:

/images
/images/large
/images/medium

I loaded the other pictures into the image folder. Ok, i could create special folder for clothes (i.e.) but i doubt that this would solve my problem, cause i still don't understand how i shall get the pictures into the product page.

Maybe i'm really that stupid, but i can name the images by numbers, letters, what so ever, i don't know how to get them into the page.
There is the possibility to upload one picture, if i upload the next, the first isn't shown anymore :(

Re: Multiple images for product

You don't. You name them according to the tutorial and place them in the proper folder. Zencart will see the image name and add them to the proper page. If the product image name is sundownpromo-800x800.jpg, naming the additional image sundownpromo-800x800_1.jpg will display it on the page. Also watch out for this:

Using the product_info page like shown above, always add/assign the base image last.

So if loading a base image and two additional images:

  1. They should all go into the same folder.
  2. Load the extra images first: image_001, and image_002
  3. They should all have the same extension (jpg for example)
  4. Load the base image: image

If the files have already been ftped to the directory, then need only type in the path for the base image and the additional images will be recognized.

Assuming your template supports additional images and all of the admin configurations are set to display additional images, then they will show.

If they still do not show after the above, then try the default zc template to see if they appear at that point. If they don't, then template needs to be adjusted to display additional images.

The other directories (large/medium) are only needed if a different large/medium image is to be used when compared to files with the same name under the "base" directory.

Re: Multiple images for product

Thank you both very much :)

Then i have to try the default template, cause it's not working for me this way :(
I named the pictures Blackbird_01.jpg and so on til _06.jpg, all the same name Blackbird, all in the same folder, added the last one first (and this is shown now) and nothing more happened.

Blackbird_01.jpg
Blackbird_02.jpg
Blackbird_03.jpg
Blackbird_04.jpg
Blackbird_05.jpg
Blackbird_06.jpg

are ALL separate images and have NOTHING in common (as far as zen-cart is concerned

Name them this way

Blackbird.jpg <--- This is the MAIN image
Blackbird_01.jpg <--- This is an additional image to the main image
Blackbird_02.jpg <--- So is this
Blackbird_03.jpg <--- So is this
Blackbird_04.jpg <--- So is this
Blackbird_05.jpg <--- So is this

The main image with out the extension is Blackbird
Adding the _01 makes it an additional image

Re: Multiple images for product

Oh my, thank you so much Gilby

I think i was sitting ways too long over this problem, that i missed the forest for the trees
I really was close to give up and search for another store.

Now all pictures are in and i feel such a relief.
I made such a small mistake and it caused me so many problems.

And thanks to all that had enough patience to deal with me and my problem.

Glad it worked for you. Come back to the forum to ask more questions when you have other issues. Of course try to search for them first, then start a new thread as necessary.

As a sidenote/reminder: because the base image is blackbird.jpg and imagename that begins with blackbird will be shown with that product in addition to where it might be otherwise assigned. Ie. If you add a second product that is about pies and the image is called blackbirdpies.jpg and stored in the same directory as they above images, then it and all additional product of it will show with the blackbird product, but not the other way around.

Welcome to ZenCart, happy Zenning!

Yes it did

And i'll come back, maybe i can help one day.
I really hope that i don't run in any other problems, managed all so far (except my stupidity about the pictures), thanks to the faq pages and all what's already in the forum and hope i will be able to do the rest without asking annoying questions

Re: Multiple images for product

Can I reopen this?

I have several images (main and others) - for eg Avantgarde. see attached.Attachment 18559.
However when i go to webpage no mages show. http://www.vintagemagazines.eu/avantgarde-c-132_144_169/avantgarde-1980-autumn-p-318.html
Additional imagesis turned on - and I have had it working in the past, as other SUNDRY magazines show.

Suddenly not showing, for Avantgarde and Donna.

Re: Multiple images for product

The images uploaded have a capital extension (.JPG) and it appears that Image Handler is being used. If not mistaken such uppercase extensions are not handled as perhaps expected, but they should be lowercase anyways.

For what it's worth, also trying to directly access the image(s) from the images directory as identified in the path for the image of the above product issues a 404 (page not found) which could be because the image is not actually there or some other reason.

Trying the Web address with lowercase extension (.jpg) finds the image, so appears need to update the filename record for the affected product to reference the lowercase extension instead. This can be manually done in the product information page.

Re: Multiple images for product

Thanks for that - renamed on server with lower case .jpg but no difference.
Just tried 'inspecting' the element and it seems to be looking for the image in the IMAGE directory directly, not in the sub folder FASHION/SUNDRY ??

<a rel="lightbox-g" href="images/AVANTGARDE_1980_Autumn.JPG" data-original-title="" title=""><img src="images/AVANTGARDE_1980_Autumn.JPG" alt="AVANTGARDE 1980 Autumn" title=" AVANTGARDE 1980 Autumn " width="150" height="0"></a>
<img src="images/AVANTGARDE_1980_Autumn.JPG" alt="AVANTGARDE 1980 Autumn" title=" AVANTGARDE 1980 Autumn " width="150" height="0">

I tried adding the image using the inbuilt zencart product edit and also Store Manager.

I went back to using Image Handler and now it seems ok - many thanks for the quick response.

Re: Multiple images for product

Silly question but cannot find the answer(!)

Using Image Handler I want to place the images in eg IMAGES/FASHION/SUNDRY or IMAGES/FASHION/DONNA etc
but they always seem to go to the FASHION directory instead of the sub directory.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Multiple images for product

Image Handler shows: Image Handler4 - FASHION > Sundry > Avantgarde

The image appears ok on the website page...BUT teh image is not in the FASHION/Sundry directory!!!
I did a search on the server for the image and it is not found.......the website image seems to be loaded from bmz_cache.

Yes, that's how IH works - you specify the location of the base image and IH then resizes it, according to the sizes set in admin > configuration > images, and creates these resized images in the bmz_cache folder. This should all be set out in the readme docs.

Re: Multiple images for product

But surfely it HAS to store them somewhere on the server other than cache...which can be cleared.
There will be hundred/thousands of images, which is why I need them in structured folder/sub folders.

Re: Multiple images for product

As far as I'm aware that is the only location for IH generated images - maybe someone else can provide a better insight.

Re: Multiple images for product

MUST be able to store them correctly.

All my images are in the correct folder structure on server. Is there any way I can associate these with products 'in bulk' rather than one at a time?

As noted previously the image is stored on the server in what is defined as your images folder. IH should respect storage in whatever sub-folder is selected when adding the image such that if you upload a new image, refresh your ftp viewer it should appear in the directory selected from within IH.

Then, and there was a brief time when IH operated differently, when the image is requested from the catalog side IH looks up that path, performs a manipulation on the path and image name, checks for the existence of the path in the bmz_cache directory and if not found, creates the "compressed" image. Doing this offers a relatively unique designation so that duplicates are highly unlikely and the customer is served the optimized image.

Now, at one point, the "hashing" was disabled and instead of the image path being a jumble of characters, the path originally provided was used from within the bmz_cache directory. If not mistaken that is something that can be "easily" implemented as discussed at least in the IH4 forum.

If though IH is not storing the image in the desired/designated original directory then that is an issue that needs to be raised in the applicable forum thread. To determine where the image should be found, navigate to the product's information page in the admin. Where the image can be uploaded, the existing path of the image should be provided. This should be the location that was selected when originally uploading the image through the IH manager...

I will note, that the path I attempted to use yesterday to reach the image related to the product of this thread, I have been denied access with a 403 error. So I don't know what changed, but I can no longer get to the original image path as presented in post #11.
