500 Error after Upgrading to 1.5.4

I just upgraded from 1.5.1 to 1.5.4 using the Auto upgrade in my hosting company. Everything looked OK, except the Admin area. I renamed the admin folder as instructed.

I can log in and access everything except the Configuration tab. It give me a 500 error page. Now, I did change WS_admin strings as my docs advised, but when I found out that I didn't need to do that for this version, I set them back.

Here's my config. Thanks in advance.

Tom

Re: 500 Error after Upgrading to 1.5.4

Possibly is an issue because of the choice to use the "auto-upgrade" from the host instead of the method described by the instruction more than likely used to make the other changes, but off the bat see to following incorrect info:

define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '//');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '//');

Each of those should have a single forward slash instead of double.

Instructions for an upgrade such as needed for above upgrade: http://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3-How-do-I-rebuild-my-site-on-the-new-version-instead-of-upgrading

Re: 500 Error after Upgrading to 1.5.4

Thanks MC. I changed those 2 lines but still can't get the Config tab to open.

Since I have upgraded incorrectly, what do I do now? I have (or had) numerous modules running. Am I going to have to make a fresh install? I could write by file-by-file backup back to the server, but that wouldn't return my database to the 1.5.x level. I THINK I have a good backup but I did that via my host and not sure how to restore it.

It has to be something fairly simple..... Yes?

Re: 500 Error after Upgrading to 1.5.4

At the moment I'm drawing a blank on what a 500 error specifically indicates or the general cause for it. (On a mobile phone so some things would take longer than others to find to offer that specific assistance.) But, basically what you are looking at is a possible difference in files between what should have been installed and what was... Yes, uploading your backup in place of the existing would not necessarily be wise. As to the database, hopefully that was a separate backup that could be used.

When comparing differences, need to look at what files are present between the two and the differences between the two of the "matching" files. "Simple" yeah sort of, but can also be time consuming depending on the plugins already incorporated to the core.

That said, if there hasn't been much done to the admin, could load up a new admin directory from a clean copy and at lest operate the store while you apply any applicable mods...just a thought. Do have to be careful though still depending on what all else has been done.

500 error generally means you have something awry with the server. Might want to contact your host to see what's going on.

Check file and folder permissions,
Assuming suphp folders should be 755 and files 644 with the exception being /includes/configure.php set to 444

Re: 500 Error after Upgrading to 1.5.4

Thanks to all.

I went back last night, checked my server logs and found a permissions error. My ../zcadmin/configuration.php file has permissions set to 777 for some reason.

All better now <g>.

And (by perception) now that it looks like your admin folder name has been posted (for all to see), suggest changing it which should be nothing more than ftp to rename.

Yup. The zcadmin was just a temp name to work out the issues. But thanks for the reminder.
