Double URL's and no formatting.

I created a test site and everything was fine. When I moved to the final folder it was fine for a short while then I lost all the formatting to my site. I contacted my webhosting company and they say I've got a dedicated ssl certificate and that my problem is due to double URL's on my site:
https://.perspicuus.com/perspicuus.com/

I've been trying to alter my config files but nothing seems to make any difference. I can still log into the admin.

Here are my current settings:

// Define the webserver and path parameters
// HTTP_SERVER is your Main webserver: eg-http://www.your_domain.com
// HTTPS_SERVER is your Secure webserver: eg-https://www.your_domain.com
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.perspicuus.com');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://www.perspicuus.com');

// Use secure webserver for checkout procedure?
define('ENABLE_SSL', ‘true’);

// NOTE: be sure to leave the trailing '/' at the end of these lines if you make changes!
// * DIR_WS_* = Webserver directories (virtual/URL)
// these paths are relative to top of your webspace ... (ie: under the public_html or httpdocs folder)
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', ‘/‘);
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', ‘/‘);

Thanks

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

Does the problem go away if you set SSL to 'False'?

Can you post a complete copy of both of your configure.php files - Please blank out the Database details and replace the name(s) of your admin folder with 'xxxxxx' before submitting them though.

There's two probable causes to your problem that come to mind.

  1. There is an error in one or both of the configure files or
  2. You have some kind of rewrite rule in place. (If it is this, then temporarily removing the .htaccess file will probably invoke a 'cure'.

Hi Rod,
Thank you.

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

lot49:

define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/');

This may be the problem.

Although it could be correct, it is somewhat unusual to have a folder matching the domain name in the /public_html/ folder.

lot49:

define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', ‘/XXXXX/‘)

If the 'XXXXX' were the name of your admin folder then this is also wrong, because the 'DIR_WS_CATALOG is referring to the front end of the store and this setting is telling the server that the store from end is actually in the same folder as the admin section of the store. A typical setting here would be just '/' or the name of the folder that holds the catalog files (not the admin files).

Also, the settings here are different than what you had in your original posting (which was probably correct).

Before I (or anyone else) can tell you the correct config settings for your store, the most important thing to know is exactly where on the server are your catalog/store files actually found.

/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/ MAY be correct, but if when you look at the files (using FTP or some sort of file manager), you'll probably find they are sitting directly in the public_html folder..

They will appear like
/public_html/YOURADMIN/
/public_html/includes/
/public_html/modules/
etc,
etc,

If they ARE in the folder that you have set in the configure.php files, the folder/files will appear as

/public_html/perspicuus.com/YOURADMIN/
/public_html/perspicuus.com/includes/
/public_html/perspicuus.com/modules/
etc,
etc,

Please confirm which of these reflects reality. If neither, then please advice.

Cheers

Why are you using different kinds of quotes?

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

Hi Rod,

It is in a file with my domain name: perspicuus.com as this is what I've done in the past with other sites.
the - define ('DIR_WS_CATALOG', ‘/XXXXX/‘) is my admin folder. I had it as '/' but it didn't work so had been trying something else.
This is a sample of how it's currently configured:
/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/logs
/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/includes/
/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/index.php
etc.

p.s. I've also tried setting the SSL to 'False' but no change.

p.p.s. as per bislewl's question: I've copied these from TextEdit when I've opened the config files in FileZilla.
I don't see different kinds of quotes in the opened config files.

Thanks,
Todd

I see 3 different types of quotes: ` ' ’

That is your issue.

I also would recommend using an IDE, makes finding/fixing issues 100x quicker:
My personal Favorite is NetBeans

All I did was copied what you provided into NetBeans and it showed me the issue

Example:
define('ENABLE_SSL', ‘true’);
should be
define('ENABLE_SSL', 'true');

That is very common for a add-on domain to use a subfolder like that.

However you make a very good point!

If this is true:
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/');

Than it should look like this:

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.perspicuus.com');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://www.STUDIO66_DOMAIN.com');
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/perspicuus.com/');

This is NOT ideal as it has a huge reduction in conversions!

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

lot49:

It is in a file with my domain name: perspicuus.com

This makes absolutely no sense to me whatsover!!!!! Perhaps you meant 'folder' instead of file, and rather than 'with my domain name' you meant that the folder name is the same as your domain name? That does make sense, but this is my interpretation of what I think you are trying to say, and that may or may not match the reality of the situation.

lot49:

the - define ('DIR_WS_CATALOG', ‘/XXXXX/‘) is my admin folder.

Then this is wrong. The define is for the CATALOG folder (as seen by the WebServer), and your CATALOG folder ISN'T the ADMIN folder.
As a general rule (with a standard installation, the ADMIN folder resides inside the CATALOG folder.

lot49:

I had it as '/' but it didn't work so had been trying something else.

This is a sample of how it's currently configured:
/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/logs
/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/includes/
/home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/index.php
etc.

So, if your server is defined as:
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.perspicuus.com');

Then the define ('DIR_WS_CATALOG) would be:
define ('DIR_WS_CATALOG', ‘/perspicuus.com/‘)

IOW:
HTTP_SERVER+DIR_WS_CATALOG
http://www.perspicuus.com/perspicuus.com/

BUT.... and this is quite a big 'but'. This will only hold true if the DOCUMENT_ROOT for the DOMAIN is the standard default of 'public_html'

If the DOCUMENT_ROOT for this domain is set as
public_html/perspicuus.com/

Then the correct settings would be
*define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.perspicuus.com');
*
and
define ('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/`)

The Document_Root can be found/configured via the 'add-on domains' of your cPanel. I suggest that you don't change this unless you know what you are doing. It is generally easier to configure ZenCart to match the server rather than trying to configure the server to match ZenCart.

lot49:

p.s. I've also tried setting the SSL to 'False' but no change.

SSL introduces its own set of possible problems, and my advice here is to disable SSL and leave it disabled until you get the site fully functional WITHOUT the SSL. Then, and only then should you consider enabling SSL and debugging any problems in that regard as the separate issue that it is.

lot49:

p.p.s. as per bislewl's question: I've copied these from TextEdit when I've opened the config files in FileZilla.
I don't see different kinds of quotes in the opened config files.

As I said in my reply to bislewl, don't spend too much time fretting over this. It is true that you WILL have problems if you are using the 'wrong' quotes/backticks in the wrong places, but it is quite possible that what we are seeing in these posts isn't the same as what is in the original files.

Now, having said that, I have a small admission to make. If left to enter these myself, I invariably mess up (or used to). These days, whenever I edit those files I ensure that I never ever delete or touch those characters in any way. Instead, I'll just edit the text that they surround.
If/when I do accidently delete one of them, rather than retyping (and getting it wrong), I'll either use the 'undo' function of the editor, or, I'll copy the entire line from another (unedited) 'define' and re-enter just the text. Staying well clear of the backticks and quotes.

Although I've no definitive solution to your problem (There are several possibilities, and probably more than one thing wrong, especially if you've made multiple manual edits), but hopefully you'll find this information useful.

Having said that, your best solution at the moment could be to do a fresh install and let ZenCart itself fill in these defines for you... it then becomes a bit of a 'no brainer'.

Cheers

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

If I may add/suggest. Instead of turning SSL on and then seeing if all works, simply try to access a page of the site using https: and see if there are any issues as a result on that page. Yes, navigation from that point will give http: links, but at least the site would remain functional regardless of any SSL issue.

Then, turn SSL on for the store or possibly the admin first and then the store....

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

Thanks everyone for the help.

My DOCUMENT_ROOT is: /public_html/perspicuus.com
perspicuus.com is the folder I have my zencart site in.

This is the setting I'm using:
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.perspicuus.com');
and
define ('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/`)

I'll try this again and if still doesn't work may try a fresh install.

These defines are correct based on the docroot, BUT, although it may be a cut 'n' paste issue, the define for DIR_WS_CATALOG has unbalanced quotes.

It should read
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/');

If you can't see the difference, press and hold your CTRL key then move the mouse scroll wheel to blow this screen up to 300% and it'll stand out like a sore thumb.

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

Hi, I tried a fresh install. The catalogue page shows correctly with the proper formatting and there are no more double URL's but the admin page is now blank. I had this problem when I first upgraded to 1.5.4 which had originally been about my hosting sites php version which was resolved.
I'm not sure what to try next.

Here are my current config files.
The catalogue page seems fine but my admin page is blank.

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

lot49:

Here are my current config files.
The catalogue page seems fine but my admin page is blank.

What do the log files say?

Does the problem go away if you disable SSL.

Cheers

Re: Double URL's and no formatting.

Here's my last Debug log:

[11-Jun-2015 23:47:02 America/Chicago] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '.', expecting '{' in /home2/studio66/public_html/perspicuus.com/includes/modules/shipping/U.S.php on line 11

I did try disabling the SSL by turning them to false but it made no difference.

Thanks.
