Side effect of Tabbed Product Pro on SEO?

Hi,

Let me start right off the bat by saying TPP is awesome. My question relates to a possible negative SEO side effect that may have been caused by the way I used this mod, NOT BY the mod itself!

Also, here at the beginning, I want to acknowledge that the answer to this question may be more theoretical than concrete. I'm simply looking for opinions on this. I realize that no three letters can be more controversial than SEO, but I'm hoping I can get some thoughts on the subject without causing a flame war.

SITUATION:
About a year ago, I built a site that featured a few thousand products from a manufacturer. Many of these products were very similar, only differing by product image, model number, size, and price. Even the product description was virtually the same, except the dimension associated with the specific model. And all products in the line were made from same specially designed electrostatic neutral material.

PROBLEM:
How to make the product pages informative without requiring a guest to follow links to additional pages?

SOLUTION:
I created a master product for the line, then duplicated it while changing only a few minor things under each description (mostly dimensions). Doing this basically matched the efforts of other distributors.

Then I decided to get clever and try to stand out. I created charts, images, text, html, and even added a video about the construction process and placed all under a TPP tab called CONSTRUCTION. Then I created another tab called SPECIFICATION and put all the technical details under that in a little reference chart. You get the picture.

The intent was to stand out, head and shoulders above the competition, in terms of the information/content on the product pages. At that, I was successful, IMHO.

Here is an example on my site:
http://smtsupplies(DOT)com/Material_Handling_Storage/Bins_Boxes_Totes/Dissipative_Corrugated_Circuit_Board_Shippers/CIRCUIT_BOARD_SHIPPER_W_FOAM_7_X_5_X_1-1_2_IN1

Here is the exact same product on a competitor site:
http://gokimco(DOT)com/protektive-pak-37033-conductive-circuit-board-shipper-7-x-5-x-1-1-2.html

Once I was satisfied that my visitors would have a pleasant shopping experience, I duplicated those tabs into all products.

MY QUESTION:
Do you think this strategy is negatively affecting SE rankings?

I am now a year out from this project and I am not getting my usual SEO results. We show up at the bottom of page 1 on Google, top of page 2 on Bing. :(

I am wondering if the duplicated content is being penalized as spam? There are many things people argue about when it comes to SEO, but the one thing everyone agrees on is: Content IS King!

The content I provide on each page is 100% relevant to each product. Theoretically, this should have nudged me to the top of Google by now because the amount of information I provide per each product is much, much deeper than the competition.

A possibility I am considering is that I may be setting off spam flags because the information is repeated from page to page.

So this presents a dilemma.

From a human perspective, you may only ever see that one page on my site. If you do take the time to click around to find another size, you will only ever see the changing product dimensions and probably will not notice the repeated information, unless you bother to click on the SPECIFICATION or CONSTRUCTION tabs.

From a bots perspective, those tabs are not hiding the content. And I am therefore providing page after page of the exact same content with only very minor changes.
+++

So what do you think? Am I shooting myself in the foot with this strategy? Should I dump it?

Thanks for you thoughts!

Not going to claim to be an SEO expert or an expert shopper, but I do think that if anything the minor variations between equivalent pages is not helping things. Why not use attributes?

I mean I would personally prefer going to the product I want and select from there the aspect about it that I wanted rather than navigating around to find it.

Another thought would be the possibility of adding microdata or some other "SE" pieces of data to the extra content so that it is viewed as being further relevant.

Just some thoughts...

Feznizzle:

Right off the bat. TPP won't have any negative 'SEO' effect.

Feznizzle:

Also, here at the beginning, I want to acknowledge that the answer to this question may be more theoretical than concrete. I'm simply looking for opinions on this. I realize that no three letters can be more controversial than SEO, but I'm hoping I can get some thoughts on the subject without causing a flame war.

Not possible. It will turn into a 'flame war'. It always does.

Feznizzle:

I created a master product for the line, then duplicated it while changing only a few minor things under each description (mostly dimensions). Doing this basically matched the efforts of other distributors.

Copying the efforts of others is not a good way to make your site stand out from them.

Feznizzle:

Then I decided to get clever and try to stand out. I created charts, images, text, html, and even added a video about the construction process and placed all under a TPP tab called CONSTRUCTION. Then I created another tab called SPECIFICATION and put all the technical details under that in a little reference chart. You get the picture.

Charts, images and video don't provide any useful indexable content

Feznizzle:

MY QUESTION:
Do you think this strategy is negatively affecting SE rankings?

No.

Feznizzle:

I am now a year out from this project and I am not getting my usual SEO results. We show up at the bottom of page 1 on Google, top of page 2 on Bing. :(

A Google search for "PROTEKTIVE PAK" brings up over 75,000 results. That is a lot of competition. The fact that you are on page#1 is a result not to be sneezed at.

Feznizzle:

I am wondering if the duplicated content is being penalized as spam?

Not possible (although I suspect that this is simply bad terminology on your part).

Spam == UCE == Unsolicited Commercial EMAIL.
Email != Web.

Also, 'duplicated content' is very difficult to define. Exactly what constitutes 'duplicate content' Is it the entire contents of a page, a subsection of a page, a single paragraph on a page? How much variance is needed before the content is no longer considered 'duplicate'.

This doesn't even take into consideration of where the duplicate content that you are refering to is located. Are you thinking duplicate content on your own site, or are you thinking about the content on your site vs the content on a competitors site?

And THEN there is the issue of does Google really penalise a site for 'duplicate content', and if so, and assuming the content is on different sites, then who's site gets the penalty? Yours, the competitors site, or both? How does Google 'know' who has copied who or who has the original content? It can't use date/timestamps because sites scan be/are constantly updated.

Feznizzle:

The content I provide on each page is 100% relevant to each product. Theoretically, this should have nudged me to the top of Google by now because the amount of information I provide per each product is much, much deeper than the competition.

This may well be true, but is the content stuff that people are actually searching for? Google takes the number of any given search query into account in regards to its rankings.

For example, several years ago several of us were experimenting with a fictional product "wurldbitzer debibulator". Searches for this 'product' gave all sites in the experiment top rankings (not surprising, no other competition), however having this 'useful' and 'deeper' information on the site(s) didn't improve the rankings for any other part of the site though, because so few people ever performed a search for this term.
Now if this was text that a lot of people were actually searching for the entire site would get a small improvement in rankings even for the searches that didn't involve this query. IOW, it would give a 'site' boost rather than a page/product boost, so the idea here isn't just a matter of adding lots of relevant content, it is also a matter of adding relevant content that people would be searching for.

Feznizzle:

A possibility I am considering is that I may be setting off spam flags because the information is repeated from page to page.

Spam flags no.

Duplicate content flags - Very shaky ground.

One the one hand you have the murkyness of exactly what Google considers 'duplicate content' and whether a site is 'penalised' for this or not (my view is that they are not).

On the other hand, content is king - So having the same, or similar content on multiple pages (for example, same product, different category) is sure to give better rankings than a site that only has this same product in a single category.

My experience is that sites with the same product in multiple categories tend to rank better than the sites with it in just one category. However, this is more anecdotal rather than something I can demonstrate with hard facts.

The third side of this argument is that by having the same product in multiple categories means that the site is, in theory, competing with itself for top rankings, resulting in a net drop in rankings. At some time in the past I've read that this being the case, you/we should be making good use of canonical links as this gives the best of both worlds - Better rankings due to the additional (albeit duplicate) content, but no penalties for competing with oneself because Google knows it is the same site being indexed.

Feznizzle:

From a human perspective, you may only ever see that one page on my site. If you do take the time to click around to find another size, you will only ever see the changing product dimensions and probably will not notice the repeated information, unless you bother to click on the SPECIFICATION or CONSTRUCTION tabs.

As much as it is able, the SE crawlers try to emulate a 'human' by following the various navigation links that it finds. This is why a site needs to be 'easy to navigate'.

Feznizzle:

From a bots perspective, those tabs are not hiding the content. And I am therefore providing page after page of the exact same content with only very minor changes.

So what do you think? Am I shooting myself in the foot with this strategy? Should I dump it?

I think you are probably placing too much emphasis on 'duplicate content'. However there are two places where duplicate content should be avoided, and that is in the page titles and the page descriptions. The Google Webmaster Tools will actually provide a report for any pages on the site that has this problem, and although it is labeled as 'HTML Improvements' I know without a shadow of a doubt that the more of these that are found/reported, the lower a site will rank.

I found this out the hard way a little over a month ago when a client decided to enable the product reviews. Until then there was nothing listed under the 'HTML improvements' (IOW, no duplicate titles, no duplicate description tags). Most search queries for any given product up until that time would be found on page#1 of Google. After this change almost every product page was flagged as having duplicate meta descriptions and titles. This site has now dropped down to page 4 or 5, using the exact same search queries as were were before.

To make matters worse, even though I've taken steps to ensure these were no longer being duplicated, Google has been VERY SLOW to pick up these changes, and is STILL reporting them as duplicated, even though when I follow their links to the offending pages I can clearly see that the dupes no longer exist. Apparently I/we need to change the text on the pages to 'force' Google to reread these metatags. Not fun with over 2000 products.

Now, that bring me up to another thing.... Your description tag. Google specifies that these should be no longer than 160 characters.
The metatag description for your PROTEKTIVE PAK product comes in at 1130 characters. A little over the top don't you think?

Then there is the product URL itself.... If we ignore the 'SEO' aspect for the time being, the main discussion around this involves them being made 'Human Friendly'. I ask you, on what planet would your URL of.......

"smtsupplies(dot)com/Material_Handling_Storage/Bins_Boxes_Totes/Dissipative_Corrugated_Circuit_Board_Shippers/CIRCUIT_BOARD_SHIPPER_W_FOAM_7_X_5_X_1-1_2_IN1"

....be considered to be 'Human Friendly'. Surely you don't expect people to type that in to their webbrowser? It's certainly not an easy one to remember, and it is way too long for it to display anything useful in the search results (which gets truncated at !60 characters anyway). Not that anyone actually looks at these in the search results. Thier eyes get distracted from this line/output by the big bold page title, and the search query they used being bolded in the line(s) after this one.

I could make a valid argument that this URL has been created for the sole intent of trying to give the page an artificial boost in rankings, and indeed, it is fact that Google clamped down on this method of ranking a site many years ago due to this form of 'abuse'.

I'll even go as far to suggest that this could be the cause of your drop in rankings. Why you ask? it is because Google have taken it upon themselves to ignore the 'traditional' use of the underscore to signify a space character, and have opted to use the '-' character instead.

Now the deal here is that your URL now contains the literal "Material_Handling_Storage" but NO WHERE on the page itself is this to be found. This is exactly the kind of thing that Google have clamped down on. IF you have had a drop in rankings due to this, then the solution would be to rewrite your URL so it reads like
http://smtsupplies(dot)com/Material-Handling-Storage/Bins-Boxes-Totes/Dissipative-Corr..................................
This way Google will 'see' this as 'words with spaces', and it WILL find a perfect match on the page itself (the category links).

I won't say you will be 'rewarded' by this change (on account it has been established many times that the URL contents don't offer any significant benefits), BUT it will prevent the site from being* penalised *as a result of it.

Anyway, that is all I have to say... and in the interest of avoiding yet another pointless debate/war I will only consider any further input if it is a direct question to me.

Cheers
RodG

Re: Side effect of Tabbed Product Pro on SEO?

RodG what's up my old friend! I do indeed recall our wurldbitzer experiments!

Setting the URL business aside (I understand your points, but continue to respectfully disagree), it sounds like we mostly agree on everything. You have some salient points I'd like to explore, but I am currently a tad distracted...

Ack! Dude! You did it again!

Would you kindly edit your post to cloak my URLs? I inserted (DOT) instead of "." intentionally so that any conversation here did not link back.

I'm happy that you chose to contribute to this conversation. But please respect my desire for privacy!

Excellent ideas! I get stuck in a box sometimes and have a hard time thinking outside.

Each of those product pages has link that reads: Not the right size? See our QUICK FIND chart...

And then links to the category description page where they can quickly find the correct size:
http://smtsupplies(DOT)com/Material_Handling_Storage/Bins_Boxes_Totes/Dissipative_Corrugated_Circuit_Board_Shippers

But what you're saying is why not have a single product page that contains all of the "duplicate" info and an easy reference chart, then use the attributes functionality to allow the visitor to choose the correct size?

Brilliant!

The only complication to that is the quantity discounting... but I bet I can think a way around that.

May I suggest that if you go this route that you post your results related to quantity discounting for anyone that comes along this? Personally, I would think (maybe hope?) that the code was written to handle that.

No can do. My 7 minutes is up. Only the site admins can change it now.

Gee, and I though I'd (unintentionally) did you a favour :-)

  1. There is nothing private about posting in a public forum.
  2. Adding dots to a URL isn't going to prevent anyone from finding and accessing your site.
  3. Software with nefarious intent won't be 'fooled' by the dot.
  4. The SE's have already indexed the site with almost 7000 links
  5. If you want privacy, then shut down your websites and unplug your modem.

I respect your desire for privacy, but you gave the actual privacy up long ago. Live with it.

Re: Side effect of Tabbed Product Pro on SEO?

Dearest Rodney,

Several years ago you were weighed, measured, and dismissed. Clearly you have nothing new to offer.

And clearly your disposition hasn't changed a bit. Anything of value you may have to offer in the present conversation (the meta tag problem on my site) isn't worth the effort required to dig through the muck of your long winded, pompous blatherings.

I find your silly rants tiresome.

Tiresome might be tolerable, but add in your abusive/combative/smug attitude... it's just not worth it.

Rod, I'm one easy going, laid back hombre. You wanna chill on the back porch, sipping on whiskey and puffing on a Cuban? I'm your Huckleberry. I can count the number of people in this world that I don't like on one shop teacher's hand. And you just happen to be one of them.

That should tell you something, buddy, it really should.

The Rod I know won't let this slide. So come on back and show us your a$$. But then after that, leave me f**k alone, for good.

Got it?

Your pal,
Fez

OK, so I have one final lesson that you NEED to learn.

Click on my name in any message. This will take you to my profile. From there you'll find a button that reads "Add to Ignore list".

Click that button and I'll guarantee you will NEVER see another message from me again.

Your attitude toward RodG, one of the most helpful members of the forum, guarantees that I won't inadvertently expose the URL of your top-secret website, either, as I won't be reading your posts.

Re: Side effect of Tabbed Product Pro on SEO?

With so much drama in the L B C it's kinda hard being Snoop D O double G,
But somehow someway, I...

stevesh:

Your attitude toward RodG, one of the most helpful members of the forum, guarantees that I won't inadvertently expose the URL of your top-secret website, either, as I won't be reading your posts.

Now that truly is a shame. Over the years I have benefited from your help many, many times. Sometimes directly (you reading a post, then offering a solution to a problem), but more often indirectly (a search of the forum about my issue leading to a thread someone else posted, then you came along and solved it for them).

Now that you have rebuked me, I feel I owe an explanation, lest I end up looking like a tool. I do hope you actually read this Stevesh because I like you, I think you are a force of good in these forums, and I don't want you to be mad at me.

REGARDING MY "attitude toward RodG"
Rod and I have a history. He referenced that history by bringing up an old experiment that played out here in the ZC forums. I had started a thread to discuss (if memory serves) a best order of operations about setting up a store (what to install first, second, so on). The discussion got sidetracked into vigorous conversation about SEO. It garnered a lot of attention and a lot of interesting stuff came out of it, one of which was an experiment during which several individuals took the same unique search term, placed it on their websites, and then applied dif SEO strategies in an attempt to find out which strategies caused pages to rank higher than the others.

This was fun and interesting, but ultimately became combative to the point of being sill. If memory serves, the mods eventually buried it because it got out of hand.

When I say Rod was measured and found wanting, that was what I referenced. Most of us were in the experiment to test ideas. Others were in it to PROVE preconceptions. When those conceptions didn't pan out, we were all subjected to windy rants about how what we could see with our own eyes was incorrect.

HOW IS THIS THREAD DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER?
Last time I was just curious about other peoples strategies. This time I have an actual problem and I was looking ideas about how to solve it.

WHAT SET ME OFF LAST NIGHT
One of the issues that caused major friction during that experiment is that I would post links with (DOT) being replaced with "." and then Rod would come along and deliberately repost the link in the clear. I had to request mods to edit his posts, just as I will now.

I'm not some bully who just randomly decided to go off on poor innocent Rod last night.

Rod deliberately picked a fight with me by intentionally (malice of forethought) pressing buttons he knew would set me off.

My response may have been overly abrasive or tad too rough, but it was certainly clear. I have no use for him and want him to leave me alone.

REGARDING PRIVACY
I didn't bother to respond to Rod's points about privacy because it is a discussion he and I have had so he knows exactly why I post links the way I do. Contrary to his insinuations, I am actually in touch with reality.

Of course these forum conversations are public. If they were not, I wouldn't be here. This is an excellent resource that helps a lot of people. There are a lot of smart people up here who volunteer their time helping others. I have nothing but respect for those of you who find the time to be so helpful.

And I have found my own way to contribute, however small it may be. If you look at any of the threads I start, you will see that I usually pose a problem. Once a solution is discovered, I come back and post step-by-step directions to solving the issue for the next guy (if another member has not posted it already).

What you don't know is that I'm impatient. Often I don't have the time to wait for a solution so I will go out and pay someone to write some code or otherwise solve the problem. Then I come back and post that solution right out in public to help the next guy.

REGARDING LINKS
Of course link backs are a good thing when it comes to SEO! If you know anything about the origin of Google, then you know why. The idea behind Google was that the more sites that point to a particular site via a hyperlink while using the same key words, the higher the relevance the site have to those words.

When Rod mocks me by saying he thought he was doing me a favor, that's what he is pointing out (I guess?).

Of course, Rod is technically correct. No argument there. If you want a site to climb SE ranks, the more links to the site, the better (usually).

SO WHY HIDE LINKS?
Rod already knows, so this is for your benefit Stevesh.

The best analogy I can think of is that of a man posting boudoir photos of his wife with her eyes blotted out. It's in a public forum so anybody can enjoy her, they just have to add a little effort to imagine her come-hither eyes. Or in this case, simply replace (DOT) with ".".

Yes, her identity could easily be sussed out by using clues in the background. And if a former lover happened to see the pic, he will immediately recognize that birthmark on her left breast. But the odds are long that one of her neighbors will ever see that image, let alone recognize her.

Yes, link-backs are generally a good thing when it comes to SEO. However, if those link-backs are associated open, public discussion of business strategies (in this case, SEO methods), then it's probably not the best idea.

Using my analogy, that would be like the husband not blurring his wife's eyes and, instead, adding her full name, an address, and an invitation that says: "Rape me. Please."

Even if he did that, I recognize that the odds of anything happening are pretty slim. Still, why take the chance?

Under normal circumstance, I love link-backs to my sites. But it's not in my interest to use links in the middle of conversations about business strategies, no matter how slim the odds are that the information might find it's way into a competitor's hands.

Silly? Maybe.

But does that give anybody the right to attack me personally? To photoshop my wife's eyes back into the image and then repost it?

LEST THERE BE ANY ILLUSIONS/DELUSIONS
Our poor, innocent hero, RodG, is, in fact, little more than a broken record filled with animosity toward anyone who disagrees with him, regardless of the veracity of the ideas Rod espouses. Worse, the man stubbornly continues to insist that his 8-track will eventually fit into my iPod.

Look at the amount of space he wasted to talk about keyword loading of URLs. Theoretically, that strategy may not have been PROVEN to positively affect ranking. However, it certainly has been proven that (correctly used, as mine are--despite the false assertion that my keywords do NOT appear in page content) it does not HURT your rankings. The end (for me, anyway).

If you seek SEO advice, be discerning about what you listen to. The loudest voice is not always the correct one.

My initial complaint (reason for this entire thread) was that my product pages (a year after being put up) are only showing up at the bottom of page 1 on google.

RodG correctly says that a search for my manufacturer yields over 75,000 results, then points out that: "That is a lot of competition. The fact that you are on page#1 is a result not to be sneezed at."

To him, perhaps. But to me, it's a crushing defeat. Given the amount of time that has passed, my SE rankings are typically above the manufacturers I distribute for.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Now ask yourself who you should listen to: an angry loudmouth with an ax to grind, or a guy who quietly goes about his business, occasionally seeking advice to better his skillz?

====

To anyone who may have been bothered by the manner in which I dispatched Rod, sorry. But what may have appeared as an over reaction to an innocent mistake was not, in fact, what happened.

I cannot begin to believe how much time I just wasted. FML. Thanks, Rod. Awesome as always, buddy.

Re: Side effect of Tabbed Product Pro on SEO?

Fair enough. Obviously I don't know the whole story. The reason I posted what I did is because of your post #8, which seemed (and still seems) rude and unnecessary, considering what went before. No one here has any way of knowing what the 'history' is between you two. I know a lot of new Zenners are offended by Rod's bluntness, but I've described him as one of the most knowledgeable and helpful members here, and I'll stand by that.

This isn't my only rodeo. I'm active on several forums, of all kinds, and flaming and personal insults seem all too often to be the rule at many of them. I hate to see it here, is all, regardless of provocation.

Anyway, pardon my overreaction.

Stevesh, I agree with everything you just said, even that Rod is "one of the most knowledgeable and helpful members here."

I do have a begrudging respect for the guy. As annoying as I find him, buried right in the middle of his first post was what I think was the most likely cause of my problem: meta tag issues.

And you are right, it was foolish and asinine to go off on him the way I did because there was no way for bystanders to know the backstory.

Anyway, sorry about the dustup. I'm done with it now.

Re: Side effect of Tabbed Product Pro on SEO?

Fair enough. Obviously I don't know the whole story.

Just for the record, any history between myself and Feznizzle had actually been long forgotten (by me anyway).

When I reply to threads/posts in these forums I don't take any notice who I'm responding to. I concentrate on the topic, not the person.

Even after reading post#8, if Fez asks a question in the forum and I think I can be of assistance I will do my best to help. He may not see my reply any longer (if he has taken my advice to block me), but that doesn't mean others can't benefit from my experience.

I don't hold grudges. The past is the past.

I always try to make a clear distinction between facts and my personal opinions.

Facts are what they are. Stating facts doesn't make me an arrogant person. It makes me a confident person.

I will argue and dispute any claims or statements that are contrary to the facts as I know them. If the arguments and debates reveal that the facts as I know them are outdated I will readily eat humble pie and advance my knowledge.

I've no problems with being proven wrong. Ever.

It is never my intent to belittle or offend anyone. These are both things hat are taken, not given. If someone feels I have belittled or offended them then that is purely in their own mind. I have no control over that.

We are not children around here. We shouldn't need to be mollycoddled (I do find this very hard to believe at times though)

Life is too short to be treading on eggshells so as to never cause offense. I will call a spade a spade. If people don't like my bluntness they can skip my posts in far less time that it takes me to write them, or better yet, they can add me to their 'ignore list'. That is what it is for.

Telling me to 'leave you the f**k alone' cannot and will not work on account of the fact that I respond to the posts, not the person.
I don't keep a log book of everyone that I've ever offended, and if I did it would take me hours to go through the list to see who is or isn't on it. It would be easier to assume that everyone is on it. ;-)

That is all. Thanks for your time.

Cheers

Re: Side effect of Tabbed Product Pro on SEO?

I forgot one other thing

I didn't intentionally 'disrespect' feznizzle's privacy (as he had stated). I'd simply forgot that he was so adamant in his belief that publishing the URL to his site would upset some sort of privacy that simply doesn't exist in the first place.

I spelt out the reasons why his belief was wrong mainly for the benefit of others.

There is nothing less private and less secure than a false belief of either. I don't want others to fall into the same trap as he has.

RodG:

Nah, no need for all that. You're solid when it comes to the inner workings of ZC. Blocking you would just reduce my chances of solving problems.

If you did actually forget our "history", then perhaps I did overreact.

I too had long forgotten that thread and our conversations until you brought it up. As soon as you said "wurldbitzer", everything else that followed seemed as if we had never skipped a beat. I thought: "Holy smokes! That guy is still ticked off at me?!"

Then when you reposted my links... well, I just saw red.

There are one of two possibilities: either you are now a bit embarrassed because you can no longer feign innocence or you genuinely didn't realize that you were talking to the guy who started that "wurldbitzer" thread and that you subsequently repeating the same action (posting my links) that had caused so much consternation before was yet another amazing coincidence.

Either way, I'm happy. Both possibilities make you human.

I'm inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt and lean toward the latter. Given the subject of my OP, I can see how you might point to the "wurldbitzer" no matter who had posted. And given your lack of patience for ideas that you don't agree with, I can see how you might disregard somebody else's wishes and repost their links as you did.

So if you truly didn't realize who I was, then your actions were just annoying and not open hostility. And I'm sorry for losing my temper.

If you're just embarrassed and covering your tracks... well, liar liar, pants on fire and no apology from me! lol

If you post on one of my threads, I won't cry about it.

But listen, I honestly do think you just forgot. What's it been, two or three years since wurldbitzer? You gotta admit, that makes this whole thing pretty funny! Man, I ripped you a new one! I bet you were like "Holy crud! What just happened?! Oh... wait! Ooooooooooh! Woops!"

I'm laughing now. Hopefully you will be able to laugh about it eventually.

Peace,
Fez

Feznizzle:

Is my face red?

Feznizzle:

I remember the thread. In fact I still use the "wurldbitzer" product for various SEO related test purposes.
I didn't/don't remember that it was you that started it though. Nor do I remember the names of any of the other participants.

Feznizzle:

And given your lack of patience for ideas that you don't agree with,

I have lots of patience for new ideas, and even ideas I don't agree with.

I have zero patience when facts are argued with opinions.

Feznizzle:

I can see how you might disregard somebody else's wishes and repost their links as you did.

I didn't disregard your wishes, at least not intentionally. That was a 'heavy duty' response I gave you, which took a fair bit of time and effort, and it involved doing something I don't usually do, namely following obfuscated links. (If people are going to make it "difficult" for me to view their site(s) I'm really not motivated to help them).

I made an exception in your case because your name was familiar to me. How or why it was familiar isn't/wasn't important. I will even go as far to say that if I did remember our 'history' I probably wouldn't have bothered to offer my help anyway, and certainly not to the extent that I went to.

Hmmm... perhaps I do hold a little bit of a grudge after all?

Anyway, after my observation that your 'human friendly URL' wasn't friendly and could even be part of the problem I did the cut n paste to help demonstrate the possible issue with barely a second though.

In fact, if you take another look at that posting I didn't even post a valid link to your site anyway.
This was neither intentional nor unintentional. It is just how it turned out.

Feznizzle:

If you're just embarrassed and covering your tracks...

Not at all.

Feznizzle:

well, liar liar, pants on fire and no apology from me! lol

I've been called many things in my time. Liar has never been one of them. If anything I'm too truthful. That's partly what gets me into so much trouble. <grin>

This has generally served me well because it means I never have to try to remember anything I've said in the past, and as such I rarely ever find myself contradicting myself. If I do repeat the same things over and over again (like a broken record) it is because the facts as I know them haven't changed. If the facts ever change (and yes, facts aren't always a constant) I do get a little embarrassed that I haven't kept myself up to date. I learn, move on, and share my new found knowledge with those that also wish to learn new things and/or changes to previous truths.

I actually abhor liars and BS artists. I have zero tolerance in this regard.

Feznizzle:

Man, I ripped you a new one!

If that is what you choose to believe I'm not going to argue.

The way I see it is that you simply had a childish outburst because you couldn't find anything wrong with the points I made.

Feznizzle:

I bet you were like "Holy crud! What just happened?!

You'll certainly win this bet.

Feznizzle:

I'm laughing now. Hopefully you will be able to laugh about it eventually.

I haven't stopped laughing since you had the dummy spit :)

There's one thing I do want you (and others) to understand. I'm not here to make friends. I'm here because I like to help people, and sometimes that involves telling them they are wrong and/or mistaken and questioning their beliefs. I won't apologise for that.

Can I be 'nicer' in the way I state things? I'll say NO, because no matter how I state them people will always read want they want to read, which is rarely what I actually wrote. I ask questions and people think I'm making assumptions. I write things like "WE will tell you when you need to contact your host" and it gets translated as "I will tell you..... " (then I'm called 'arrogant' because the 'we' has been changed to 'I').

It is due to the fact that people read want they want rather than what is written that I no longer even try to be "nice".

Virtually everything and anything I write in these forums is a response to what has been written, not the person that did the writing.

EOT.

Cheers
Rod
