after upgrade only get the zc_install screen

Okay, at least I did this to myself and not to someone else. I finally (cobbler-shoes) got around to updating my own zen cart site.

And something is wrong. Duh.

I got the zc_install index screen. I decided to replace the configure file just in case 'cause it was the old file without that sweet code that makes the admin folder name not matter anymore.

No dice. I copied the database settings from the store side and the path.

What in the world have I done to myself that I have never done to someone else?

That screen includes some guidance as to why the zc_install is being displayed, you just have to look for it!

Okay, I know we are preaching in the choir room here and you understand that we don't know (and can't see) the steps you took in your upgrade.
Hopefully you followed DrByte's words at How do I rebuild my site on the new version, instead of upgrading? - Blogs - Zen Cart Support That should fix the problems with the configs. Since I know you wouldn't have started this without backups, starting over should not be that big a deal.:hug:

I found out what was going on and number 1, I feel foolish and number 2, I suspect no one would have ever guessed what the problem was.

I had moved the site to another server.

I was not editing the configure file on the new server.

But when I ask about something like this, the answers tend to be obscure and telling me to read the dang screen does not help.

:yes: We've all done something like that from time to time.

And... That's why I think the posting tips should be, at least partially, required. How you installed ZC might have jogged our brain or yours. That's the only item different from an on-server upgrade.

May not hve helped you (though the contents were never presented for others to help), but it has helped countless others. Of course we all make mistakes even at the basic level with the confidence that everything was done correctly. Beyond that, hard to guess at things we don't know about...

Only provided info was that an upgrade was performed. Nothing about a server move (before nor after the upgrade). And generally eventually the questions get down to asking about the correct path/folder/site being edited but after a good deal of tooth pulling... Just sayin' :)

yeah and no. I upgraded before I moved the site. Got disgusted when I couldn't get into my own admin. Left it, came back to it and forgot I had moved it. I had nothing more to give!

But, you see, my point is that you DID have something else to give. Your thread said upgrade but, nothing said server move was involved as well.:hug:

If I were to take a guess I'd say that you probably moved the site to a different server and that you are editing the wrong config files. :-)
